The html file control is your *only* option, unless you write an ActiveX or .NET control ( which will only work in IE ) and your users trust you enough to install it.

The FILE control is locked down for security reasons. There is not much scripting you can do against it. Your best bet is to check out one of the Ajax style file-upload libraries to see how they manipulate it.

Try opensourcecms(s).com
but I strongly recommend using some other CMS then PHP-Nuke. It is complete rubbish, full of security hols and crapy code all mixed up with HTML.
Use Joomla or xoops or typo3 or just about anything else.

Don't worry, I will not use phpnuke... I have my CMS, and I plan sell to a lot of companies here what have got phpnuke. Then I need "collect" a lot of stuff against

You can use ActiveX objects, you can't just call any Windows APIs, they are different to ActiveX controls.

Hi
My client has asked me to knock up the ubiquitous Guest Book for his site. I tried to disuade him, saying that they are a hunting ground for spammers / scammers etc, but he insists, and he is paying my wages. He wants me to filter 'bad' words. I asked him for a list and he smiled. So...two questions - one I've seen here before but no decent answer - does anybody know of a good 'bad word list' (oxymoron?). And secondly, more importantly, does anybody know of a good way of checking for character substitution (or has some body done it before and "plz give me the codes man").
So, imagine the word Microsoft is classed as a bad word
I want to filter out
Microsoft
M1crosoft
Micro5oft
Micr0soft
M1cr05oft
I think you can see where this is going. I know I can subst the 'i' for a 1 or an l and check, the o for a 0 and check, but this is expensive. Thinking about it, whilst knocking up this post, I suppose regex is the best way, so check for the non-subsitutable chars - M,c,r,f,t. Just need to learn RegExp now for something like M[1li]cr[0o][5s][0o]ft. Is that sort of thing possible in a regex statement?
Any help much appreciated.

It most certainly is what regex is great at. There's a program called Expresso, which is on this site, and which is great for knocking up regex. But, it's a losing battle, if people want to swear, they'll find things that get past your filter.

you pretty much have the regEx there. I would recommend having a central array of all the characters that substitute each other and then see if one was used in the statement.

The previous statement may contain traces of PHP, and by reading this statement you negate the right to vote me down.

If he wants to filter bad words to stop others reading them on his guestbook then I advise a human moderation (with a hook into Akismet[^] for spam) system before a message is made public. "bad word" filtering is too simplistic and ends in false positives (or positive negatives or whatever the right term is.)

Hi,
I am developing a Windows app that needs to talk to a server, to retrieve some information.
The server will run SQL Server, which I need to query, presumably through a stored procedure.
How do you recommend I talk to the server, directly from the client application?
It is slightly difficult, because its a client application, and not a web application that would have a backend on the server.
All I need to do is say "Hello server, give me the number at x in table y."
I'm presuming a 'web service', but is there possibly an easier way through IIS, somehow? Or maybe a Windows Service?
Regards,
Cormac Redmond

Gove the IP address of the SQLServer in your connection string and query it as usual.... or have I misunderstood your problem?

the onfocus event does not bubble. See the Documentation[^]. You will have to attach to the DIVs event also.

How about:
rs.Open "select * from news where index=" & passvalue,con
(assuming the string passvalue represents a numeric value)
