sorry can't help you with the ASP part, but google the following things:
1. HTTP Headers
2. Content-type (header)
3. Content-disposition (also header)
and that should provide you with a knowledge of what you want to do.

If you are using .NET then place this in the button click event. Im not sure of a JavaScript solution.
Response.Clear()<br />
strPath = strPathLocation<br />
Dim file As System.IO.FileInfo<br />
file = New System.IO.FileInfo(strPath)<br />
Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream"<br />
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" & file.Name)<br />
Response.AddHeader("Content-Length", file.Length.ToString)<br />
Response.WriteFile(file.FullName)
Hope that helps!

Hi all
i'm trying to find a way to pass custom objects from a webservice to website
the current way that i'm trying is to use a
webservice(asmx class) in the site and to load the objects into session
then use webRequest to call the aspx page and read the session in aspx page.
WebRequest webRequest = WebRequest.Create("http://localhost:2367/Business.Reports/Reports/Report.aspx");
WebResponse webResponse = webRequest.GetResponse();
StreamReader sReader = new StreamReader(webResponse.GetResponseStream(), Encoding.GetEncoding("windows-1255"));
reportHtml = sReader.ReadToEnd();
is it posible to set session in the webservice (and i allrady used the Property: EnableSession=true) and get the session on a responsed aspx page?
should i use some other way ?
please help me with this fox ...
the target is : use webservice for
send object to the aspx and return an html string that rendered on this aspx page.
thanks, guy

Scenario:
One application domain with one IIS, one Active Directory, one MS Exchange Server
One portal startpage which uses certificate authentication via smartcards, mapping the certificate to a user account in the domains Active Directory.
The user puts his smart-card in his reader and accesses the portal-startpage over the internet. After successfull authentication the portalpage is shown in his browser. This page contains for instance a link called "mail" which will take the user to a page where outlook web access has been capsulated into a webcontrol and presented on the mail-page.
Question: Will he automaticly be logged in and shown his personal inbox (SSO)?
According to my own research on the web the way I understand it is that when he gets logged on to the portal a session-key containing all his credentials from the information in Active Directory will be created by IIS. This key will live throughout the whole session and automaticly be used in further functionality-requests by the user. In other words, once hes logged in to the portal SSO will work.
Is this correct? If not, how can this type of functionality be reached?
thanks for your time
/Rickard

Hi,
I am new to programming and still learning.
I am using asp.net 2.0 and Sql server 2000.
I have webform where I have two Dropdown controls, One for 'Company name' and the next for 'Employee name'. And for Both these controls I am getting the value from database.
I have a third control which is a text box. and than a submit button.
In the text box control, I want the user to type Employee designation and when he clicks submit button it should go and add in the database under employee desination table.
I already have the Store procedure for adding to the database, And I want to use the same procedure. Lets say the procedure name is "add_designation".
What I want to know is how to write code under submit button click event. can anyone write the code for me? I will really appreciate.
Thanks

Hi!
I've just tested Pageflakes and I'm very impressed. I really like the effect when you first visit the page. A "window" is displayed and the rest of the page is dimmed out. The rest of the page also loads in the background. How is this done? Anyone knows that?

I suspect that it has been done by changing the opacity via JavaScript.

Well you could use a javascript pop up box. The newer browser make a complete mess of this though (you will see what I mean).
<input type="button" on click="window.open('example.htm');" />
<!-- "on click" is one word, CP just blocks how it is meant to be -->

Hi,
We have a folder on our LAN which is about 11GB in size.
I need to build a web interface to it which will allow users
to search the repository.
This is going to be an indexed based search, which means that
results will be dependent on the content of the files. This in
turn implies that we will need to index the contents first.
The filetypes are: office docs, pdf's and zips.
Any tools? frameworks? or suggestions regarding this?
I've heard of dotLucene, but when I tried it, the stupid tool
did nothing other than delete every file in the folder to be
indexed. Thank god I didn't try it on the actual LAN folder.
Please help. This is really urgent.

I have bit of a challenge for the CRM guru’s. I have two applications on a users desktop/laptop, a thin client application and Microsoft CRM that needs to synchronies data. I need to integrate enterprise data from a java application stored in a local client side SQLServer database into a CRM application/database (client side, i.e. offline).
I need to do synchronisation CRM client side because the core java application can change client side for a period of up to to a week before the user can go online and CRM need to reflect some of these changes, i.e. application is offline, for instance a field officer on a remote location, disconnected from the CRM server, updates within the enterprise application user details which in turns needs to be directly update/synchronized in CRM. It works like this, a thin java application runs client side to serve basic offline application needs for the enterprise application, any changes to accounts or activities on the Java application, i.e. separate SQL server database needs to be synchronized with Microsoft CRM to make the save seamless for the user, thinking it is saved for both applications.
Initially I thought of the CRM SDK, trying to do this using the CRM web services. Only issue is, this works server side but NOT client side, i.e. can’t get the CRM webservices to work client side (spend weeks on this). Thought there should be a client side API interface for CRM, but only found javascript in the SDK. I devised a screen scrapping exercise populating CRM via HTTP scrapping data from the java screens and populating the CRM screens, but not happy, is a bit ugly. Any ideas or references to similar implementations or a solution to the problem will be highly appreciative!
Cheers Pompie
