At work I have to use Office 2003 - mainly for Outlook. At home though, I have not installed Office, or any other suite like this in a few years now. If I have received a word document, I use wordpad to open it. But I suppose this is just a preference.

But is wordpad capable of opening all Word documents? For some with complicated graphics and wordArt, wordPad hangs by giving a large number of messageboxes. Is'nt it?

Oh, I agree with what you are saying. It does have problems like that. But then not many people send me documents in the first place, which prompted my move into having no office type software. Also, if i am receiving something along those lines, its usually in PDF format.

well, i am using NeoOffice at home (not really a need for a better and pricier office suite).
But it sucks. Royally. Not for me - but for my girlfriend who writes some texts on Word (another PC) and wants to edit / print these texts at home (with NeoOffice). Well, it may not be the best technique (thanks the built in spell check - neat tool Chris) to use tabs to build a page layout, but it is always messed up when imported to NeoOffice.
Yep, and if you want to exclude the first page of the text to be not included in the page count - o well, now you've openend a can of worms. I read 3 tutorials how to do it, but I never got it right.
I really want her to use NeoOffice.. if it worked as a drop in replacement for her. But it doesn't. Bugger.
All the label says is that this stuff contains chemicals "... known to the State of California to cause cancer in rats and low-income test subjects."

Im quite surprised at the number of people still using office 2000 . . . I would have thought that a few less people would have been using it, even though i am still one of them. I personally use office 2000 at home and then 2003 at college.

I usally dont use office products that much except to read documents from the web. So office 2000 is good enough for that.
Last time I created a word document was almost a year back.
so no point in installing a newer and bigger software for 1% usage.

Ditto (if you replace college with work). For home use I've not yet seen a compelling reason to move form Office 2000 or even Office 97 really. I only upgraded to 2000 because I needed Access at the time and my Office 97 didn't have a version.

I still use it for the sake of compatibility. Office 2000, XP, 2003 and 2007 all can open the docs generated by Office 2000.

I own it, it works for the purpose I use it for. Why upgrade? I will end up upgrading sooner or later but that remains to be seen.

I use 2000 at work, and I don't have a home PC.
My company sees no compelling reason to upgrade, and frankly, neither do I. (We don't use Outlook; we use Notes as our mail client  )

I voted Open Office but really I use NeoOffice which is a Mac port of Open Office (because OO is pants on Mac.) I didn't bother paying for Office for Mac but instead fire up Parallels with Office 2003 to check my documents before sending them out.
Office 2007 is sweet though. If I was still running Windows I would use that. Just remember to save in the old format, most people can't read docx yet.

I only use OpenOffice, under Windows and Linux. The PDF export alone is worth every penny.
