Sure
DateTime.Year * 500 + DateTime.Month * 27 + DateTime.Day.
Or, do you require it to be in a specific format ? What are you using it for ?

The Ticks property of the DateTime class gives you a long value that represents the time in ticks since midnight, January 1, 0001. There are 10000 ticks on a second.

Year happy = new Year(2007);

Thanks guys, but I figured it out on my own, using the below code;
' gets the long number for the date from the date variable
Dim idDt As Double
idDt = Date.Today.ToOADate
Dim dtToday As Date
dtToday = Today()
Dim idt As Long
idt = DateDiff("d", Today(), dtDa)
idt = idt + CLng(idDt)

I would like to write code in Visual Basic 2005 to produce a text box on a form.
Here is the code which doesn't work.
Public Class Form1
Private Sub CreateMyMultilineTextBox()
' Create an instance of a TextBox control.
Dim textBox1 As New TextBox()
' Set the Multiline property to true.
textBox1.Multiline = True
' Add vertical scroll bars to the TextBox control.
textBox1.ScrollBars = ScrollBars.Vertical
' Allow the RETURN key to be entered in the TextBox control.
textBox1.AcceptsReturn = True
' Allow the TAB key to be entered in the TextBox control.
textBox1.AcceptsTab = True
' Set WordWrap to True to allow text to wrap to the next line.
textBox1.WordWrap = True
' Set the default text of the control.
textBox1.Text = "Welcome!"
End Sub
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
' Create UserTextBox TextBox control.
Dim UserTextBox As New TextBox()
CreateMyMultilineTextBox()
MessageBox.Show("Done")
End Sub
End Class
What, pray tell, is missing? It is a direct copy of MSDN's Visual Basic Express Visual Basic Programming Guide.
Thank you for your help.

Do you get any errors?
Trinity: Neo... nobody has ever done this before.
Neo: That's why it's going to work.

No oddly enough, I don't get any errors.
I suspect I have left something out that most visual programmers know about. I've made the textbox visible, made it 20,20 in size, but it still won't appear on the form. Maybe it's not supposed to be done in the form load subroutine.

Thanks for answering.

Controls.Add(textbox1)
You need to add it to the forms controls collection

I want to connect oracle 9i database with vb.net. Can anyone help me in doing this?
Thank you.
|
|
|
|
|
Use OleDbConnection
Example connectionString:
"Provider=msdaora; Data Source=MyOracleDB; User Id=myUsername; Password=myPassword;"
Very simple example:
Public Sub InsertRow()
Dim myConnection As New OleDbConnection(myConnectionString)
Dim myInsertQuery As String = "INSERT INTO Customers (CustomerID) Values('1')"
Dim myCommand As New OleDbCommand(myInsertQuery)
myCommand.Connection = myConnection
myConnection.Open()
myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
myCommand.Connection.Close()
End Sub

I have a gridview in a VB2005 project that contains a checkbox. In VB2003 I used a datagrid and I have the code to read the datagrid to determine how many and which boxes were checked. I am having trouble converting my code to use a gridview. How do you in VB2005 read a gridview and determine if the checkbox was checked?
Thanks

There are many ways to do this. Probably the easiest way would be to add a DataGridViewCheckBoxColumn to your GridView. Then set the FalseValue property and the TrueValue property of this column. Then set the DataPropertyName property to the field you want to bind this control to from your DataTable/DataSet or whatever you are binding to the DataGrid. Now when the box is checked that field in the DataTable/DataSet will be set to whatever value you set as the TrueValue property.
I hope this at least will put you on the right track. Good luck.

Sir/Madam
I am Final Year Engineering student. I want to get information about connection of computers at different cites.
Actually if I want to computerize a department of any company which have its offices at several cities then what steps I should follow.
Means how I can connect that no of computers in appropriate manner to get desired output.
I want to make it just like railway reservation system through in which if I enter data at same time then database must be able to prioritize data in sequence to enter in database.
Which database & platform or language I should use to code this kind of project.
Thank You

Please don't cross post. Currently, you have posted this same topic on the Suggestions, Visual Studio, Work and Training Issues, General Discussions, Web Development, SQL / ADO / ADO.NET, ASP.NET, VB.NET, Visual Studio and C# forums. I see from your profile that you have been warned of this before.
the last thing I want to see is some pasty-faced geek with skin so pale that it's almost translucent trying to bump parts with a partner - John Simmons / outlaw programmer
Deja View - the feeling that you've seen this post before.

You're a final year student and you don't know what languages to use ? Do you know any ? There's no language I can think of that can't do this. The real question is, what language do you know ?
I'd imagine a central server which exposes a webservice and keeps the database.
Please don't cross post in future.

Hi,
Is it possible to read all the lines in a text file into seperate textboxes in vb6. If anyone knows please help.Thanks
|
|
|
|
|
the answer is yes. the consideration is that depending on the size of the file, that could be a large number of textboxes which could lead to issues managing that on the window.

Private Enum eLED_TEST
eLEDTEST_PASS = 1
eLEDTEST_FAIL
End Enum
Dim byteBuffer(64) as Byte
bytBuffer(1) = eLED_TEST.eLEDTEST_FAIL
After Building it gives the following error:
"Option Strict On disallows implicit conversions from 'Commlink2.Form1.eLED_TEST' to 'Byte'"
Can anyone please tell me what should be done for this?
