You probably need to post some code, sounds like a Unicode issue. I can't help more, I never use VB6.

The Random class will give you a random number. If you have a database, you can generate numbers to be the Ids of values in there. Or, just build arrays to look into.

I did - the Random class. As in
Dim r as Random = new Random()
dim i as int = r.Next(100)
that will generate a number between 0 and 100. I recommend making the random class a member, if you keep creating new ones, it's less random.

i have a database of data that i wish to randomly pick out a number and extract all the data belonging to it.i dont know how to start coding it, can you tell me the steps on how to do it?

The SQL to get the highest possible ID is select max(ID) from dataTable, where id is the id column and dataTable is the table name. Then use that value in the Next method of the Random class, to get an Id for a select statement.
If you're saying that you have no idea how to access your database, then the web is full of articles on how that's done.

This setup when installed on my development machine works fine.
But when i install this thing on another machine which has only .Net framework and MS-office, and try to run my exe it gives me error which says:
No accessible overloaded 'SqlCommand.Transaction' is most specific for these arguments: <br />
Public Sub set_Transaction(value As System.Data.SqlClient.SqlTransaction)<br />
Public Sub set_Transaction(value As System.Data.Common.DbTransaction)
Can naybody help me out and tell me what this error is about?

on the test machine SQL client is installed.
SQL server is installed on another machine. I am getting the server details thru a file.
From those details i am formatting the connection string and connecting to the database.

It's the exact same project ? It looks to me like you need to be more specific about which item you're trying to pass through.
Why did yo usay you had Office installed, when you're using SS ?

You're going to fail. Seriously.
