Just to clarify: your currently using the query string to store sensitive information that obviously you want hidden if the address bar is visible?
Have you looked at using a central session store for the web farm? Alternatively I'm sure theres some way to store the session data on the client.

Yes we are currently utilizing a hidden address bar to hold login/other information in the querystring. The site itself utilizes hidden fields to hold various variable values but the problem is mainly on the login portion where it is a separate "application" so I am unsure if the session between apps would even be saved and when I spoke with the server admin he didnt seem to know anything about a session state management server. Previously the only way that anyone knew of to transfer that information was through a querystring.

Just noticed the "ASP/VB6" part - apologies I was coming from a .NET perspective, can't help you with that one!

To keep sensetive information in the querystring is a bad design. Be grateful for how IE7 has drawn your attention to this problem.
If you want to keep the information safe, it would never reach the browser. One way to do this is to only send an identifier to the browser, and keep the data in some centralised storage, like a database.
If you have to send the data via the browser, you have mainly three options; querystring, form data and cookies. Neither is really safe, so you will have to choose the one that is the least bad.
If you are only sending the data from server to server without the need for the browser to access the data, you could consider encrypting the data.

Both have their own signicficance if you want to do Client side coding then its better to use html controls else at the server side you should have control which could render at server side so use asp control or html control with run at server
|
|
|
|
|
Using the HTML controls will give you more control over the resulting markup but certain options (such as manipulating a drop down list) are only available on the ASP.NET controls.

|
|
|
|
ASP.NET controls - classes from System.Web.UI.WebControls namespace - are meant as abstraction for controls that goes beyond simple HTML. Web controls are typically compound of lot of javascript, HTML and server-side logic. You use HTML controls - from namespace System.Web.UI.HtmlControls when you don't need that abstraction, when you just need to control HTML elements from server-side.

Unfortunately you cannot insert pictures into standart <input type="text"> .
I can propose to search HTML editor tool (for example KTML) or write something similar with reduced functionality by yourself.

Make the auto post back of drop downlist true and use dropdownlist selectedItem prepertyn in the dropdownlist_selectedIndexchanged function ?

Your probelm is not clear when and why you want to select employee , please explain your question.
If you are filling dropdownlist use its property autopsotback=true which is false by default.
Now use SelectedIndexChange event of your dropdownlist.
if you have fetch data from database on the basis of rowselected in the dropdowlist.
You have to keep in mind that weahter you are using DataTexFiled property and DataValuefield property of the Dropdownlist
if you are using these two then you can query your database like this
sql="select * from tbl where field="+ dropdownlist.selectedValue or
sql="select * from tbl where field="+ dropdownlist.selectedItem
if you are not using these two properties then
you can use
sql="select * from tbl where field="+ dropdownlist.Text
Hope it will help you .
