This is a bit of a long shot, but does anybody know where I might be able to get a hold of DirectX December 2004 SDK?
I know it can be downloaded from microsoft, but their website refuses to let me do so. It requires a windows validation ( for a freeware SDK??? ) and is accusing me of having an invalid key What happened to all the "windows vista is uncrackable" hype? They still need to check the key and even then get it wrong!!

Ok, well the first hit returned in my query is a link to a CodeProject Article. So you should be able to find that then right?

I'm writing a serial communications library for communicating with GPS devices. Serial ports are opened in overlapped mode. A thread is responsible for reading data from the device at regular time intervals, and displaying relevant information to the user. I already have the core reading functionality working. What I'm looking for now is a way to notify the user when the connection has been lost, in as reasonably short a delay as possible. How can I accomplish this? Allen Denver's MSDN article includes a basic description of overlapped serial status checking, and I'm guessing that there is a particular event I should be waiting for. Which event would that be?
Cheers.

Is there any difference in the privileges of the 'localsystem' account under XP,2000 and 2003 server?
We are launching a browser through the IwebBrowser2 interface ,from an INTERACTIVE windows service (running under 'localsystem' account),and make it navigate to a url.
The url in turns redirects to another page.
This navigation/redirection is allowed in 2000 and XP ;but fails in 2003.
Is this a result of difference in network privileges for localsystem account?

I would be shocked if there wasn't.

I would not think so.

Are you sure that is the proper solution for your requirements? I am doubtful.

Yes. AFAIK it will remain that way for future versions as well.
*edit* I thought it changed on XP as well - maybe in SP2.
I can't find the whitepaper that recommends setting up a special account for services so one
can better control priveledges if the built-in ones aren't sufficient. This one may help a
bit though:

I don't have an answer about the redirect, but FYI this scheme won't work in Vista either because services can't display any windows on the user's desktop.

I have come across a heated debate of preventing interactive services in Vista too.
The problem is that if we configure the service under a domain account ;it ceases to be interactive.
The only way a service can be interactive is with 'localsystem' privileges.Am i wrong on this?
FYI - Also, this setup works fine on Xp(Sp2) and 2000.In 2003,a normal navigatino works - but a redirection doesnt.

you mean like ascii codes? How do I insert them into a CString?
|
|
|
|

that is, I can't find bullet points in the ASCII chart, if you have the value let me know and I can insert them using the CString::AddChar() function, I think.

Yeah that won't help because they might be FONT specific. Try the Windows Character Map tool since it allows you to set the font.

Can't you just use an asterisk?
