Hi all
I have developed an application and now I want to change the background of each and every dialog box and also of the non client area of the main frame window. I want to change it to the color with gradient effect.
How can I do that?
Thanks
Sameer Thakur

Thanks for reply.
Yes I have already tried it. It changes the background color. It also adds the gradient effect but only to the dialog boxes.
My requirement is to provide gradient effect to each dialog box, non client area, various controls like button, edit box, progress bars, list box, list controls, caption bars….. in short to every single control or window visible to the user.
How can I achieve this?
Thanks
Sameer Thakur

I tried the code that u have pointed out.
But how to change background of caption bar, non client area?
Thanks

HEY! You stole that code from my tester app!
Wait, I stole that from you

Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. It's a dumb question... skip it."

rotfl.... good point
BTW, where is your app ? any chance to see its "pretty face" ?

All it is is a little MFC project that I keep in the solution I have open all day long.
I use it to test code before I post it here in CP It has lots of commented out code for
FAQs. It's just a simple dialog-based project. Of course, the coolest thing about it now is
the purplish to green gradient background I stole from you

Hi,
UpdateLayeredWindow() returned error "The parameter is incorrect", I tried to use AlphaBlend() that use similar parameters and it works fine
Here is the code:
this->ModifyStyleEx(0, WS_EX_LAYERED);
BITMAPINFO bmi;
memset(&bmi, 0, sizeof(BITMAPINFO));
bmi.bmiHeader.biSize = sizeof(BITMAPINFOHEADER);
bmi.bmiHeader.biPlanes = 1;
bmi.bmiHeader.biWidth = 255;
bmi.bmiHeader.biHeight = 255;
bmi.bmiHeader.biBitCount = 32;
unsigned char* bits;
HDC hdc = CreateCompatibleDC(::GetDC(0));
HBITMAP hbmp = CreateDIBSection(hdc, &bmi, DIB_RGB_COLORS, (void**)&bits, 0, 0);
SelectObject(hdc, (HBITMAP)hbmp);
char alp = 0;
for (int j=0; j<255; j++){
unsigned char* vertbits = bits + j*255*4;
for (int i=0; i<255*4; i+=4){
vertbits[i+0] = 255 * alp / 255;
vertbits[i+1] = 0;
vertbits[i+2] = 255 * alp / 255;
vertbits[i+3] = alp;
alp++; alp%=256;
}
}
BLENDFUNCTION bf = {AC_SRC_OVER, 0, 255, AC_SRC_ALPHA};
SIZE s = {255,255};
POINT p = {0,0};
BOOL res = ::UpdateLayeredWindow(m_hWnd, ::GetDC(0), 0, &s, hdc, &p, 0, &bf, ULW_ALPHA);

I'm not sure though, try giving second parameter as NULL.
BOOL res = ::UpdateLayeredWindow(m_hWnd, NULL, 0, &s, hdc, &p, 0, &bf, ULW_ALPHA);
