Yup, when you create a new project, just don't select a C++ CLR project, and all will be fine
If you're upgrading existing VC6 projects, it'll figure out you're not using .NET, and won't add it.

Hi all,
When developing a Win32 Console Application is it possible to give the console window a name? If so, how would one go about doing this?
Thanx

if your using windows 2000 or later you can use the following function
<br />
HWND hConsoleHandle = GetConsoleWindow();<br />
SetWindowText( hConsoleHandle, "Some text" );

Sure it does. It's in kernel32.dll.

Is there any way to show ToolTip on TaskBar, using VC++.

Can you explain a little more? Taskbar already shows tooltip if we place mouse over an icon in it.

A tooltip for an icon you add to the taskbar?
If so, you can set the szTip member of the NOTIFYICONDATA struct you pass to Shell_NotifyIcon()
to set the standard tooltip text. NIF_TIP needs to be added to the uFlags member as well.

Dear All;
I have a dialog box hosting a picture control which has a bitmap loaded in it. The bitmap is scrollable (I derived a class from CScrollView to do that).
How do I capture the OnLButtonDown and OnLButtonUp mouse events that happen within the scrollable image (ie. those which happen within the picture control only) ?
Thank you

Derive a class from CStatic and make a control variable for the picture object of tis class. Now you can handle the OnLButtonDown and OnLButtonUp inside this class.
Another way is to overide the PreTranslateMessage() of the main dialog. Inside it check the message is WM_LBUTTONDOWN or WM_LBUTTONUP and the hWnd is the handle of the picture control.

Thank you for your answer.
I will try our your first suggestion, it sounds feasible.
Another inquiry if you dont mind, the picture control is scrollable (ie. if the loaded image is bigger than the size of the picture control, scroll bars are provided to allow the user to view all parts of the image) and i will need to retrieve the (x,y) of user clicks within the image.
do you think i will have problems getting the coordinates in this case considering the top left corner of the image control as the reference point?

offcourse no. The point you recieve in the WM_LBUTTONDOWN will be a point relative to the top left postion of the image control itself

But the control image is attached to a scrollable window -a class derived from CScrollView-

I think I have got it. I have added the mouse event handlers to the derived class from CScrollView .
Thank you very much for your help.

Hi friends,
I have two dialogs .
dialog1 has the following styles
DS_MODALFRAME | WS_POPUP |WS_CAPTION |WS_BORDER
dialog2 has the following styles
DS_MODALFRAME | WS_POPUP.
Dialog 1 is placed exactly on the top of Dialog 2.
These two dialogs are aligned in a way that they appear as a single dialog.
Things are working fine in all the windows operating systems(except Vista)
But in Vista,
The alignment is lost.
The top dialog(dialog1) appears little bigger than the dialog2.
Can somebody help me out solving this problem.
Code is written using pure SDK.(no MFC).
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
We are using opendesktop api in a binary and we ar getting return code
170 (The requested resource is in use. ERROR_BUSY)after executing the
binary for some times . If i restart the box and execute the binary,
the error disappears.
I have not been able to find any documentation describing under what
conditions ERROR_BUSY is returned by OpenDesktop nor how to handle
this condition. For example, should OpenDesktop be retried after a
short sleep?
If anyone can provide any information on this condition, it would be
appreciated.

Hi guys,
I've been reading some forums about catching the escape key. I have this property page and when I press the escape key, instead of closing (which should have happened by default), does not close.
There were some suggestions like overriding OnClose and OnCancel or using PreTranslateMessage which has this code:
BOOL MFCDigPropPage::PreTranslateMessage(MSG* pMsg)
{
if(pMsg->message==WM_KEYDOWN)
{
if(pMsg->wParam==VK_RETURN || pMsg->wParam==VK_ESCAPE)
MessageBox("Pressed the escape or enter key!");
}
return CDialog::PreTranslateMessage(pMsg);
}
This code worked when I created a simple dialog box with just the OK and Cancel button on it. But when i tried it on my property page, it does not work anymore. Any suggestions/ideas regarding this one??? I would really really really appreciate any help on this.
Thanks!

you need to handle the PreTranslateMessage of the property sheet. if property sheets have a parent then handle the pretranslate of that dialog.

You need to handle this ,message in owner property sheet. e.g.
BOOL CMySheet::PreTranslateMessage(MSG* pMsg)
{
if(pMsg->message==WM_KEYDOWN)
{
if(pMsg->wParam==VK_RETURN || pMsg->wParam==VK_ESCAPE)
MessageBox(L"Pressed the escape or enter key!");
}
return CPropertySheet::PreTranslateMessage(pMsg);
}
