In general no, we don't allow this. If everyone had our smilies then why would anyone come visit us?

Don't you provide them in the open source version of CP?

They are included, but they're older versions.

Watch this post[^]. Actually, it is reply to Bulky Fello. But led Mike's reply to a post whose question has been deleted is in between.

It's a problem with us not using transactions. This was done because we use a neat, but slightly inefficient system of sorting. Next version should correct these problems

Would it be possible for CodeProject to make a SQL forum? Or is there not enough demand?

Wow, the gang here is so on top of things they seem to have seen your idea in the future and implemented it ahead of time. Congrats Chris

Is there a setting I may be missing to be notified when any message is posted to your article's message board? As it is, I get notified when 1) Someone starts a new thread or 2) Someone replies directly to one of my post on the board.
Recently, someone had a problem compiling my code and posted a question to my article's message board. I thought the problem was more or less resolved and went on my way. Turns out the poster was still having problems but instead of replying to my posts or starting a new thread, he replied to his own posts, so I never got a notification. From his point of view, I was ignoring him.
Well, he started a new thread today, getting a little snarky about support. Since this was a new thread, I did get a notification and his continued problems was brought to my attention. I pointed out what I've written above, but was just wondering if email notification can be more general as to prevent this from happening in the future.

This must be a new problem. I (used to) receive notifications about posts to my articles no matter who they were to.

You should be getting all notifications, not just replies to your posts and new messages.
Hmmm.

The new submission wizard is great and there are lots of neat features in it. But I had some frustrating experiences with it last night:
1. The <> icon to edit the source is not as obvious as the old icon in the toolbar. It took me a while to figure out how to get to editing source. Of course, now I will not have the problem anymore
2. After posting the article, I wanted to modify the description and other article meta-data and leave the text intact, but the HTML editor still shows up. Can they be on separate screens?
3. The bigger problem with 2 is that if you don't edit the HTML and leave it intact, the article formatting gets messed up. For example, when I clicked on Modify Article for this article: http://www.codeproject.com/useritems/ExplorerBrowser.asp[^], and submitted the form without modifying the text. Most of the text became bold and the color of the text in the pre tags dimmed. (I am not ruling out a problem in my article's HTML)
4. I would love to have a way to post just a plain HTML file instead of copying and pasting the entire HTML contents to the editor.

|
|
|
|
1. Me too. I need some time to tweak
2. I prefer everything on one screen so I can update everything with a minumim number of clicks. I'm open to persuasion.
3. The new WYSIWYG editor is a little more picky and will correct your HTML. If there's a problem with your HTML the auto-correction can really show up issues.
4. Been thinking about that for a long time...
I have 2 new editors on and have asked them for further suggestions. No timelines yet since we've just timelined 6 months of new work on the site, but I'll try and squeeze it in.

I was doing a google search for the application ForestPad that I put up on The Code Project a couple of years ago and I noticed that another site, manbu dot net, seems to be screen scraping code project and delivering the content of articles as if they originated at manbu. Then they are using google adsense on the page to make money off of The Code Project and my article (among many others, of course).
This seems slimy to me but is it even legal? Even though I provided the article as an open source thing to Code Project, can a third party just copy the article and code verbatim, strip out information regarding the author, and publish it as their own?
An example link is below:

I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on this.
Thanks,
Timothy

It's absolutely illegal. I'm getting legal advice on how best to proceed.

Thanks Chris,
It looks like the site is overseas, so I imagine that it is difficult to deal with from a legal perspective.
In my mind, this is the worst type of abuse. Taking the best intentions of the wonderful people who build this community and exploiting it for personal gain.
