I got mine free and thought its nothing great, it'll just be kind of cool. But it really suprised me. If you have the oppurtunity to get one Logitech has a really nice one.

I would not consider buying any other type of mouse, since you can now pick them up for < $20 US.

Yah, Recently I got a cordless optical mouse. I thought it was totally cool for about a week, and there is a down side with it being cordless when I become angry I get the urge to pick it up and throw it at a wall luckily I haven't given into this urge.
Also I used to never use a mousepad becuase I did not like the feel of them but now I am forced to considering my desk is a solid color and the optical 'eye' doesnt operate very well on it.

They are great, but my logitech mouseman is playing up lately. When the cursor is left stationary for a while, it begins moving erratically. Not the mouse obviously, just the cursor. Something up with the electronics methinks.

optical is great, but I wouldn't reapeat the cordless. At the end of the day (or rather the beginning of the next) the accus go low and I have to stop working. Not a good idea when the customer is waiting (well I didn't throw away the old mouse yet).

I defuzz my mouse whenever it deviates from its normally smooth as silk behavior, usually about every 3 weeks.

I guess that was exactly the question - how often does your mouse *need*defuzzing?
I can't imagine a serious coder who does it always and only on (e.g.) Monday morning.

I agree. This is what I do when I am not using an optical mouse. But I'd say it is less than once a month.

Fuzz in mousemats is an issue that's been kept under wraps for too long. Thank you for exposing this vile phenomenon!
Can you tell I feel strongly about this?

Have you considered writing to your Congressman or member of Parliament about it. Its a disgrace. Possibly this Fuzz is being put there by terrorists.

I use a stack of paper as my mousepad. It's always available, easily disposable when i spill my drink on it, get food on it, etc., i can take notes on it, write down a to-do list, all kinds of good stuff. Tracking sucks for mechanical mouses, but it's good enough most of the time, and the new optical ones have no problems at all.

I think if you dont have the standard style mouse with ball in bottom (how rude) then its classed as 'another type'.

Cool! So when you get drunk you are not sure whether it's the mouse or the alcohol that gives you the feeling that the earth suddenly lost it's gravity

The trackball that I have gets gummed up every two or three days because I use my thumb with it. An optical trackball would be nicer. I do like the track ball on my desk because there is very little room for a mouse. It is impossible to play quake with though.

I have logitech optical wheel mouse, it is great, but i have mouse pad with photo of boat int front of dusk The problem is that when i'm moving mouse over black area, cursor sometimes stops moving, it is only chaotically jiggling around one point, untill i get off the dark area. Sometimes cursor is jiggling also when mouse is over dark area and is not moving .
Do you use some special mouse pads for optical mouses ? I want to use some, becouse moving on table desk is not so smooth, it doesn't have so smooth surface
