Yes, but it's under the General C++ menu, so it's not clear that's where you would look for a C# tool (for example).

No, I was thinking of a section for CP Tools in any language.

Many older articles have comment sections that run for several pages. This causes people just reading the article to overlook the answer to their question, which may have been asked earlier. So they ask the question again, causing the comment section to become even larger...
So how about a View All option, next to First Prev Next?

Good catch - yes, it should just be for article comments, not other message boards.

I just worry about those articles with hundreds of comments. The printout could extend dozens of pages.

Try printing a day's worth of Lounge posts sometime...
I hesitate to suggest this, because it breaks with the nice threading model used everywhere else on the site... but how about "floating" high-rated posts in article forums? Maybe work it in such that a couple of the most recent threads show up first, followed by the top rated posts, followed by everything else. Think: mini-Slashdot with AJAX. or maybe don't.

Hi Everyone!
This question is, primarily, for CP holders.
Can we have a site (sub)section for Ruby on Rails? Or, maybe,
"Other" subsection in a web development section?
RoR has grown from it's infance - now it is used for serious web projects.
?
Best regards,

You have to get behind Brad on this one. It's only fair that he gets his PHP section first.

I guess, it is Web Scripting. Then it would be in 'Web Development'

The article editor already corrects broken HTML. The problem is that it can't read minds so that the way it makes corrections and the way you may want the corrections made can be two very different things

OK - so let's extend this idea to allow the editor to pick up corrections by telepathy.

I've been looking for plug-ins that will do that but none of them are free. As if I'm going to pay good money for something that should be so simple...

Have you considered making the forums themselves all XML based? I'm not suggesting you store the messages in XML format, but perhaps you could create a web service/internal class that allows you to request a certain page or something like that and then the class creates an XML document with the required data.
This was once you have it working interface changes should be a lot easier to do and it may also make it more reliable.
Also one final benefit could possibly be an expansion of CP use (like a desktop version).

Is there anything specific you could think of that would help the end experience if internally we went from Database -> XML -> HTML?
If you're after an XML feed of the message boards then we will have that in form of an RSS feed.

Well for a few reasons:
Reliability, The HTML generator will do a lot better deciphering this sort of thing:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<messages>
<message>
<indent>3</indent> <!-- For replies where the original post is not on the same page -->
<poster>XxXxXxX</poster>
<posterid>445343443</posterid>
<date>03:44 3/4/07</date>
<rating>5.0</rating>
<subject>Testing 1234....</testing>
<content> This is a message >b<this is bold<. This &gt; is a less than sign >br /<</content>
<replies>
<poster>XxXxXxX</poster>
<posterid>445343443</posterid>
<date>03:44 3/4/07</date>
<rating>5.0</rating>
<subject>Testing 1234....</testing>
<content> This is a message >b<this is bold >/b<. This &gt; is a less than sign >br/<</content>
<relpies />
</relpies>
</message>
</messages> Also you could create an API so that we could request a certain pat of the forum and the server could send it down to us.
I was thinking of a little side project that would benefit greatly from this, but more about that later.

|
|
|

With 15,000 articles it's almost impossible to translate all to other languages, and even harder to keep them synched up when updates are made. We have no plans to extend CodeProject to other languages because we simply do not have the resources.

Could you not have a voluntary translation project and then link to translated version when available?

We did this at CodeGuru and it was a logistical nightmare. It sounds great but it truly sapped the life out me trying to keep things organised.
Maybe in the future when I have spare resources and can dedicate some serious thinking to this, but at the moment we just cannot make it happen in a reliable, organised and consistent way.
