I have a datagrid as follows which contains a DDL.

</asp:TemplateColumn>
</Columns>
<PagerStyle Mode="NumericPages"></PagerStyle>
</asp:datagrid>
I want to manipulate the contents of DDL dynamically according to results returned.For this I wrote code in Status_Results_ItemDataBound as follows:
<b>DropDownList list=(DropDownList)e.Item.FindControl("DDAction");</b>
list.Items.Add("ABC");
list.DataBind();
But i am getting an error "Object reference not set to instance of an object" at the highlighted line. I am unable to figure out the error.Pls help!!!

It means you should never write code like that. If you call Findcontrol, you should use as and check the result.
DropDownList list = e.Item.FindControl("DDAction") as DropDownList;
if (list != null)
{
// it's OK
}
Then you need to set a breakpoint and look through the controls collection of e.Item to try and work out why it's not in there.

Hi,
I tried your suggestion but it didn`t worked!!!
What i did is...
DropDownList list=e.Item.FindControl("DDAction") as DropDownList;
if(list!=null)
list.Items.Add("ABC");
else
Response.Write("Fail");
and it`s printing Fail implies it`s returning a null value. I saw the same code on a forum (don`t remember which) and implemented it but it`s not workin. Pls help its urgent,i am stuck.....

if you use from list.items.add(): you don't need databind your gropdownlist

can i customize size of Grid after click Edit
Because after click edit apeare two button update/cancel
and the size of grid view in new width larger than browser.

One thing what you can do is to fix the width of all the columns in the grid. In that case if the content is long then it will come in the next line.

Yes you can.
Go to Control panel
Add or Remove Programs
Click the left side bar Add remove windows components
Select the check box for IIS.
Then click Next and follow the prompts.
You may need to re-install asp.net after IIS is installed. I have had some problems before if asp.net is installed before IIS.

But I don't have an IIS 6.0 server with me. Do you have any idea where I can download it from, because even a lot of googling hasn't helped. And how do we install ASP.NET. Is it different from the .Net framework we install.

Did you check the control panel add remove program and then add remove microsoft components?
IIS should be there. It might prompt you for a XP Professional install disk, but that is the easiest way to install IIS.
If you have already installed the .net framework that is fine. asp.net is the programming language that is in Visual studio. so you would need a visual studio install.

Rubbish - that installs 5.x - 6.0 is from Win Server 2k3....

You mean to say that there is no way to install an IIS 6.0 on an XP Pro.
And the only way to install IIS 6.0 is to install an Win 2003 Server?

Not that I or any of my co-workers have found!
IIRC, you can get hold of 6 in a desktop OS, but only under
Vista...it's something to do with the concept of app pools under 6.0 I believe...
