That's quite impossible without knowing what the error is.

I encountered similar problem few days back. Turns out to be a virus that creeped in causing it. You may try running antiviru.
In my case, if I tried to run some exe after booting computer, it causes computer to restart. See if your problem is similar to this.

COnsult McAfee technical support. Alternatively, uninstall it and try a different anti-virus package - I use Grisoft's AVG.

When i starting my desktop, I have got a error saying that "Bad CMOS and CMOS Failed, press F1 to continue". I pressed F1 and it took me too CMOS setup, where i just saved and exit. The system got restarted and there is no display after that. Even the Ram checking sound also not comes there after. I tried replacing the CMOS battery as only solution i know, but it doesnt work out too.
Will anyone provide me possible cause, and also a soltion which will recify my problem.
Thanks in advance,
Uma Shanker. K

The CMOS seems to be invalid. That could be an (rather unusual) hardware failure, the result of a aborted BIOS-flashing attempt, or the result of a virus deliberately damaging it.
You can try one more thing: there might be a jumper on your mainboard that clears the CMOS, usually labeled "CLEAR CMOS" on the MB. Power down your computer, set that jumper and power it on for a few seconds, then power it down, reset the jumper and start the computer again. If that works, however, you will have to reconfigure your BIOS.
If it does not work, the easiest way to regain access to your PC would be to replace the mainboard. You might have a socketed BIOS, but depending on the age of your computer, it is a major pain in the bottom to find a suitable replacement.
Additionally, if you buy a new MB, do NOT start your computer immediately after. If a virus caused the problem, it will probably damage your new MB as well. If you need the data on your HDD, buy a new HDD, install Windows and an up-to-date antivirus software onto the new HDD, and then mount and scan the old HDD.
Cheers,
Sebastian

I have problem friends, My computer when I install The winnows XP.
when finish the install, there is no display, where is the problem???

Does the install finish successfully?
If not, when does it stop/halt?
Í know that Windows uses low res graphics for installation, but switches to something more useful after installation. Maybe the driver Windows uses for your graphics adapter is not compatible. In that case, try restarting the computer, pressing F8 after the POST-Screen and,if that menu pops up, press "Safe Mode". Does that work? If it does, remove the old driver and install a new, compatible driver.
If the installation does not finish at all, try installing as far as possible, then reboot and try to "repair" the installation you began. That might or might not work.
You can also try to boot Knoppix or another Linux-LiveCD, just to see if they have similar problems. Also, with Linux, it is easier to identify a faulty piece of hardware.
Cheers,
Sebastian

I don't have any sample code that is easy to get to, sorry. There are lots of examples on various web sites, including Microsoft's and this one, in lots of different languages on how to use WMI.
As for where different pieces of info are, download the WmiTools.exe from microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=6430f853-1120-48db-8cc5-f2abdc3ed314&displaylang=en and it will let you browse the entire WMI space. You can find which class contains the info you are looking for.

Hi, folks!
I have several machines running Windows 98SE and I need to get the latest updates, etc. So, I go to Windows Update. Woops! Instead of the usual checking for software page, I get a page thanking me for my interest in obtaining updates, that the site is for Windows Updates and offering to take me to the site for Mac updates! Windows Update Error Message[^]
I really need to get these systems up to date. Any ideas as to what might be confusing the updates site?
TIA!!

I play games occassionally such as Age of Empires 3, The Sims 2, or Sim City 4 and with all of them randomly the game will minimize itself. The lazy man's approach to this is to disconnect from the internet and startup with no non-essentials. The only things I have running for sure are Norton Internet Security, Webroot SpySweeper, Lexmark printer stuff, and all the regulars that HP ships on the computer. Does anybody have an idea of a regular offender here?
