I have a table in aspx page and I dragged a dropdownlist from toolbox. When I tried to change it's ID e.g ddlUser it gives me a messagebox saying that if you have references in markup they will not be removed.
What does it means and it is not allowing me to change the name of the control.
Thanks

It probably means that the toolbox sucks, you should just write your aspx page by hand.
What happens if you go into the code and change it ?

Hi,
Iam using VS 2005 for building my ASP.NET applications. I do not see the drop down where i can switch between release and debug configuration in VS 2005. Is there a short cut key to bring the build configuration window???
Thanks

Try going to your menu tools then customize
The select the standard toobar. The debug / release drop down should be in that tool bar. Perhaps you have un docked that tool bar and hidden it or closed it.
Hope that helps.

Hi,
I am trying to make this work here, I set a form authentication on my site from a SQLDatabase. Now the membership tool did not seem to give me all I needed so I followed an example using tickets to specify user roles from the database. All in all it works well. The only problem I am having is that whenever I am authenticated with a lesser user role (let say Role 1) and I am trying to axs a page requiring Role 2 let's say, I am redirected to the login page - not the error page. I tried to find a trick to redirect to the error page all users already authenticated (meaning that most of the time it would be because they tried to axs a page to which they can't axs) but that means even if the user wants to go back to the login page he will be redirected to the error page, which doesn't make sense.
So my question is - Is there a variable or a way to know that a user tried to axs a restricted page even though he was already authenticated??
JC
PS: I hope it's clear, I seem to have difficulties putting it to words

I don't know if there is any way of doing what you are trying to do. What you can do is if you are using a site.map file to show your links to the different pages you can to role trimming which will only show the links that the users role allows.
Hope that helps.

I just wanted to proof my site so if I or anyone else type in manually the URL of a restricted page, they would go to an error page instead of the login (not indicating why).
I guess I found a workaround - probably if I put the error page as my login page in the webconfig and then redirect to login if not autenticated it would work. Although I find it a bit sloppy and I cannot beleive there isn't a better way to do this ...
but thanks for the input

I have an ASP.Net app that creates a bitmap image and tries to save it to the images folder of that application. When I browse to the page, I get a "generic error occured in GDI+" in the Bitmap.Save method. I tried everything I knew to do to set permissions for the application, but it still doesn't work. Tha application works fine on another machine.

I have an ASP.NET page with a form that contains two user controls:
<%@ Register TagPrefix="x" TagName="c1" Src="ctl1.ascx" %>
<%@ Register TagPrefix="x" TagName="c2" Src="ctl2.ascx" %>
<body>
<form runat="Server">
<x:c1 id="con1" runat="Server">
<x:c2 id="con2" runat="Server">
<form>
</body>
In one control (con1 ) I have a dropdownlist. In the other control (con2 ), I have a set of textboxes that I would like to pre-populate with values that depend on what item is selected in the dropdownlist in the first control.
How can the code for con2 access the value of the dropdownlist in con1 ?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

u must public the dropdownlist for your form and use it.
for example:
public DropDownList drop1
{
get{return yourdropdownlistid;}
}
and use con1.drop1.SelectedItem in your form code
--------------------------------------------------------
or define a dropdownlist in con2 for example:
private DropDownList DropDownList1;
public DropDownList con1dropdownList
{
get{return this.DropDownList1;}
set{DropDownList1 = value;}
}
and in form use from:
con2.con1dropdownList = con1.drop1;

Well, that isn't right, because the crux of the problem is I'm working within the code-behind page of a user control, not the main page. As a result, I don't have direct accss to con2 or con1 as properties. So I can't use, for example "con1.drop1.SelectedItem", because it will say "con1 not defined". And if I try something like "Page.con1.drop1.SelectedItem" it will say that con1 is not a property of Page.
I actually found my answer, though, just FYI: I needed to use the Page.FindControl() method, which solved my problem.
