I am a student at a cheap school and we are making a cheap game.
I have to make a game with Delphi 4.0 that is gonna whipe the
floor with the other students' games.
We worked on Frogger, I still haven't finished it yet.
*someone tell me how to make my frog die when he gets squished
by a truck.
Anyways I want to make a side-scrolling adventure game like
Mario from the NES but the problem is... I am an amateur
programmer and I need a team.
So this is my plan, I get help from friends and you guys
(friends , I make my images and you give me codes to make my
game work. I am no dum nut but if there would be a time-generous
person reading this and thought maybe he could help this guy
make a cheap game then he would profit in joy later on with
credit.
these questions have got to be answered soon. big favor needed.
Where do I start?
How do I make a side-scroller?
How do I make my HERO die and lose a life?
(I got most of that down)
How come my games are so choppy? I mean like it warps from point
A to point B and it ain't smooth.
I know FLASH 5 and I can animate stuff with it.
*Score one over the class
I am on MSN Messenger with gamepraiser@hotmail.com
and I really need a programmer friend here.

I think this process of component instantiation is works good
function fun1()
{
var objVar;
var x;
objVar = new ActiveXObject("ProgID");
x = objVar.YourMethod(required Aurguments);
}

I have developed a client-server application in VB6 and SQL Server 7 as backend. The application works fine in our intranet. But I want to connect to the SQL Server physically located in our second office which is in different city. We have a fixed IP address. I am facing a problem in connecting to the SQL server. I have tried with DSN, provider, .udl file. How do I accomplish ths?

I have done this many times with the following code. Basically, I create a connection string and use ADO and OLEDB to perform the connection. Here is a code snippet.
strServerName = "127.0.0.1" ' Substitute your IP Address here
strDatabaseName = "YourDB" ' Substitute your Database name
strUserName = "YourUser" ' Substitute your UserName
strPassword = "Password" ' and Pasword here.
' Initialize the database connection string
mstrConnStr = "server=" & strServerName & ";database=" & strDatabaseName & ";provider=SQLOLEDB;uid=" & strUserName & ";pwd=" & strPassword
' Instantiate an ADO Connection Object - Trivial code left out
' Then, open the connection.
mobjConn.Open mstrConnStr
' Do some error checking here
That's all there is to it!

You need to make sure that the SQL Server is set up to use TCP\IP protocol and then on your client machines in the setup of the DSN you need to make sure they are trying to connect via TCP and not Named Pipes (which would only work in you intranet).

I'm writing a VB app that will be deployed as a service (using SRVANY) under
NT. It sits as an icon on the system tray, and puts up a visible dialog when
clicked.
The problem is that if it is started automatically before the user logs in
the Shell_NotifyIcon function can't display the icon in the system tray
because there is no task bar. Then when a user does log in there's no icon.
Can anyone tell me how I can recognise when a user has logged in (or out) so
that I can manage the icon properly?

.. what about something which [tries to] talks to the service which the user logged on in 'Startup' or the non-user visible eqiv.
[Like VNC]

I'm sorry, I must be thick because I don't understand a word of that. What do you mean by "the service which the user logged on in 'Startup'"? What is VNC?

Write your service as usual, and then write secondary app which you can place in the user startup folder which tries to connect to your service.
VNC is a remote control app, which is well respected and exists under GPL I think:

It also gives an icon in the 'clock box' when running as a service.

Hi,
Does anyone know how to switch on (or off) antialiasing in a RichEdit
Control?
Cheers

I would like to use the IPAddress Control as provided by Microsoft in a VB Application. In VB, unlike VC, you can't just add the control to a form, it is just not in the toolbox.
I tried to create a new (subclassed) ActiveX control but I could not get things to work.
Does anyone know how to get this to work? Or can someone explain to me, why it can't be done (if so)?
Greetings,
Patrick

Check http://www.vbpj.com and other link off the site for a control. You could also write a VB COM DLL to search your directory of images and write out HTML text based from your listing.

Is it a bug in Visual Basic? When pressing a key while holding down the ALT-key, normally a WM_SYSCHAR message is generated (WM_SYSKEYUP and WM_SYSKEYDOWN, too). Writing a program with VB, this WM_SYSCHAR message appears twice with the same wParam and lParam. The message-time differs by 10 milliseconds. VC programs do not have this phenomen.

I suspect theres a delay in VB and its coming up twice or your keyborad is really sensitive.
I notice key events react differently in VB.

How can I paste a Progress bar on top a Status bar in an MDI form.
Any help would be apprieciated.
Thanks
|
|
|
|
|
A simple way is to add a pane to the status bar as a separator and then in CMainFrame::OnCreate, create the progress control with the size of that separator. Then use CmdUI to enable it, and it is ready for use.
I can send you an example is you like.
Happy programming!!
