I have been told by many people that javascript is the way forward for validating the amount of characters in a field, however i have tried several snippets of java code (that work in an html document) and i cant seem to get them to function alongside my aspx page.
this is proving to be quite a pain as it is putting the breaks on my progression, i need to learn javascript and am doing so bit by bit, but more importantly i need practice with asp.net coding.
this is why i am creating an application, but this is a necessary part of it.
below is the link to the code i have tried..
i have tried substituting the names in all field and cant really see why it wouldnt work.
any help, or code, or anything really would be much appreciate.
and if it is easier by viewing my code let me know and i will post it....

many thanks,

I am facing one problem.
I am applying theme to a page dynamically.
Theme contains styles properties for the LinkButton button having two SkinID="Normal" and SkinID="Highlight"
Now there is a LinkButton control on a webpage and by default its SkinID="Normal"
Now in javascript I want to change the SkinID of the LinkButton to "Highlight"
Is it possible.??

u can do it by giving some id to both the styles.
first remove the style by
var newNode = document.getElementByID("Normal");
if(newNode)
{
var oRoot = newNode.parentNode;
oRoot.removeChild(newNode);
}
the add the new style.
var elem = document.createElement('style');
elem.id = "Highlight";
elem.type = "text/css";
elem.text = "ur style property";
document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(elem);
or else u try for
document.getElementByID("Normal").id = "Highlight";

in brief - It will first check for the "to" address and make a match of that from DNS if it is found the ur message will be enrouted to that server where it will get stored. Next time the person opens gmail can see that.
It is just like we are storing data in database then retriving that by using some ID. In this case data u are sending to store in gmail's db.

OleDbConnection conn = new OleDbConnection(strConnection);
//conn.Open();
OleDbCommand command = new OleDbCommand("SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]", conn);
// command.Connection = conn;
// command.CommandType = CommandType.Text;
// command.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM [Sheet1]";
OleDbDataAdapter da = new OleDbDataAdapter(command);
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
//DataTable dt = new DataTable();
conn.Open();
da.Fill(ds, "EmpSal");
DataGrid1.DataSource=ds;
DataGrid1.DataBind();

More information is always needed, what is your code behind? The simple logic is, to make sure your drop down menu is in POSTBACK, I'd bulid a Case statment, to set focus on whatever needs focus depending on what answer it was.

i am using c# as code-behind
can you send me the code please
its urgent
Thanks

Do your own work, or at least attempt to. Plus there is no way I can write the code, I dont know your variables. People here arent here to just do your job for you, they are here to offer help and assistance, and no one is going to help, with someome that is just saying "give me the code", there are way WAY better programmers on here than me, but none have responded, cause of just what I said.
What dont you understand about what I said?

My project is on ASP.NET 1.1 and it runs on ie only. In this project i have a setup in which there is one base page and all of the rest pages are as component. their is a strange problem when i move from one specific page say page1 to another say page2 and then check its source from view source. i am seeing source of page1 whereas the ie displays page2. but when i goes from some other page3 to page2 every thing is fine. i m getting error when in base page i have used some javascript and it is saying hidden field is null. but when i go from page3 to page 2 there is no error. any possible reasons?

That's just plain not possible, unless the source is being changed in script ( you see the original source ).

OK, apparently, your hidden field is null. You need to check your javascript and markup, and if you want meaningful help, you need to post it, so we can comment on your code.

Hi all,
I've got a small issue I need to figure out and I thought someone might have the answer. I need to send a print job (HTML page) to a networked printer connected to the web server, rather than the client's printer. Essentially this is a letter printing exercise for a corporate application. The letters are written with a wysiwyg, web-based HTML editor. They can then either be printed (for posting to the recipient) or emailed (which is, as you would expect, a doddle). Printing is causing some issues in that, while it's extremely simple to get a print job to a client-side printer, printing to a printer connected to the server is a bit of a nonsense. I thought of creating an instance of a web browser control on the server side and programmatically filling it with the HTML and asking it to print, but apparently this will pop up a dialog on the server, which is less than desirable. At the moment my solution is to do some fairly arcane transformations on the HTML in order to turn it into postscript, fire the postscript at a printer (which is relatively easy), and hope to god the printer understands it. Most of ours are HP printers and cope admirably with being given raw postscript, but it's not really a future-proof solution. If the users end up getting a new printer that doesn't understand postscript natively, they'll just be printing what will look like complete gibberish.
If anyone's got a nice, slick answer to this, I'd appreciate it. The postscript solution has a certain raw charm, but it's nowhere near as elegant as it should be. Something I can actually show my boss without being slapped round the back of the head would be good.

with dotnet framework 2 , it will always ask for that print dialog. it was possible with framework 1.1.

Fortunately I'm still in a 1.1 world! How do I get around the print dialog?
