Ouch, that's ugly!
Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "MyAlertMessage", string.Format("alert('{0}');", errorMessage), true);
That's nice!

Hi,
I am using VB.NET 1.1 and I am trying to write XML data to the browser window. It doesn't write it like an XML file, but more like text, all in one row.
My code behind looks like this:
Dim writer As New XmlTextWriter(Response.OutputStream, Encoding.UTF8)
writer.WriteStartDocument()
writer.WriteStartElement("userInfo")
writer.WriteStartElement("browserInfo")
writer.WriteElementString("userAgent", Request.UserAgent)
writer.WriteElementString("userLanguages", String.Join(", ", Request.UserLanguages))
writer.WriteEndElement()
writer.WriteStartElement("visitInfo")
writer.WriteAttributeString("timeVisited", DateTime.Now.ToString())
writer.WriteElementString("ip", Request.UserHostAddress)
writer.WriteElementString("rawUrl", Request.RawUrl)
writer.WriteEndElement()
writer.WriteEndElement()
writer.WriteEndDocument()
writer.Close()
Response.ContentEncoding = Encoding.UTF8
Response.ContentType = "text/xml"
Response.End()
I've searched high and low for an answer, but no luck. Please can some advise??
Regards

Do you mean that only text is displayed? Or that the output ahs tags but is on one line?
In the latter case you need to use XmlWritterSetting and set indent to true
XmlWriterSettings settings = new XmlWriterSettings();<br />
settings.Indent = true;<br />
<br />
writer = XmlWriter.Create(Response.OutputStream, settings);
only two letters away from being an asset

XMLHTTPREQUEST object will work in client side using javascript, So whatever you do with this object will not reflect at server side. I mean you cant find the state changes in server side.

Add Hidden textbox for each and every control to store the state, write a javascript function and call when the button is clicked. after postpack repopulate or store the value back.

I can do that but being it is a dropdown i need to populate the dropdownlist everytime page is loaded. I just cannot store a value and repopulate it.
Instead i can do that at server side instaed thru java script.
Any other way i can register the control and data.

No way dear...I also faced this problem and did this same way...Finally I changed that event to server side.
You can do this in asp.net 2.0 without any worry using AJAX

Hello
I'm sure you saw this request fro several times, but please help me.
i'm a Windows Application Developer (C#) and i always change properties of controls programmatically.
i did these:
sqlDatasource1.Connectionstring = ... ;<br />
sqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = "SELECT idn, header, date FROM <br />
tblNews';<br />
sqlDataSource1.DataBind();<br />
gridView1.dataSourceID = sqlDataSource1;<br />
gridView1.DataBind();<br />
Now i want to do these in CodeBehind:
1-Change columns HeaderText and width
1-Change column[1] (header) to HyperLink
2-Add Button with Text="Active', Identify when user clicks on it and it's RowId
I know it takes time for helping me, Please take me usefull references in web.

Hi,
Instead of creating columns automattically at runtime.
You can create the custom columns. Go to property builder of gridview and the uncheck the Automatically create columns at runtime.
Add the desired columns there giving desired header name and datafield.

Hello Friends
How can i know which row user clicked on it? I saw in forums they use CommandClick with e.command argument, but i can't see this event for GridView in Properties box! I don't want to use Select Column of GridView.

Trap the CellMouseClick event...
You can then use the e.RowIndex to know the row clicked by the user.:->
