Hi all!
Please help me in my problem.
I'm developing a 'plugin' to the web-site. I can't change any files in root web-site
My aspx files are placed in ~/plugins/task/ folder.
I create web.config in this folder with appSettings and user section. In code-behind file i tried to read application settings written in web.config, but i can't see them . My user section is also unavailable.
Is there a way to accomplish my task or I should use resource files for my settings?

|
As far as I know, the web.config needs to be referenced in the root web.config in order to get loaded properly.

I can't find any related information! My be you can give me some references or link where i can read about this?

For a web application this is not the case.
Check the following link for detailed article on web.config.
http://www.sitepoint.com/article/web-config-file-demystified
The section relevant to this check "A Few Other Issues"
" * A Web application can contain more than one Web.config file. The settings in a file apply to the directory in which it's located, and all child directories. Web.config files in child directories take precedence over the settings that are specified in parent directories.
* Web.config files are protected by IIS, so clients cannot get to them. If you try to retrieve an existing http://mydomain.com/Web.config file, you'll be presented with an "Access denied" error message.
* IIS monitors the Web.config files for changes and caches the contents for performance reasons. There's no need to restart the Web server after you modify a Web.config file.
"
Coming to the original issue, can you post your web.config file.

Hi Diablo,
I assume you have not renamed the file web.config to something else. In case you have renamed it, make it as web.config.
If it is alright, I don't see any issue with the .config file. Might have to dig a bit little deep to find a fix.

A timer occurs on the client, and so it's done using javascript, not whatever language you're using on the server. Google for javascript timer and you'll get tons of hits.

Use a dataset, bind it to grid. Once you are click the save button, use the data in dataset to save in the database.
//Binding datagrid with dataset
{
Dataset dsData = New DataSet()
//Load columns/relevant data into dataset
LoadData(dsData);
dataGrid.DataSource = dsData;
dataGrid.BindData();
}
//Saving to database on savebutton event.
{
SaveData(dsData)
}

Your header has more to do with ASP.NET than your question
Have you looked at msdn.microsoft.com[^] ? Nothing beats a good book.

A custom dropdown control I have created inherits from System.Web.UI.WebControls.DropDownList.
While creating it I have overridden:
OnPreRender()
Render()
RenderContents()
PerformSelect()
The problem is when I try to bind the control to a datasource using
SelectedValue='<%# Bind("Field1") %>'
the control does not appear to pick the value saved in 'Field1'. I have run a trace when debugging and realised that the SelectedValue property is not initialised even after binding as above. Where should I start looking?
Thanks.

hi,
in my web application, I'd like to upload an excel sheet and convert this sheet to a table in an Access database. I'd like to have the ability to access in the fields in the excel sheet and create a field in the table that corresponds to a certain field in the excel sheet.
Is there any technique to do that in asp.net??

Hi all.
This relates more to ASP.NET than to mobile development, hence the location of post.
I have developed a mobile web page in ASP.NET and it runs fine when running it on its own in VS.NET. I need to run it from a mobile device emulator to see how it looks,etc. I have tried this in the browser of the emulator :"http://localhost:2175/DemoGhostDigest/MobileArticle.aspx" but it says I am not connected. I specify the proxy name and port numbers, yet it still says no connection.
Am I missing something? Please assist.
Thanks.

Hi,
we are trying to build a web application like HTTP Commander. What we want to do, is to be able to allocate some space on the server for each registered user, and allow them to store files within that space in the users respective directory.
We have finished the entire file operation modules, uploading downloding, deleting, moving, renaming, etc, but we are not able to find out a way to allocate a max size of X MB to a specific folder.
Anybody tried something similar before? Would appreciate a bit of help here.
Thanks
