Hi All,
Please help on how to connect Remote Database with ASP.NET application.
i.e My application is deployed in one place and the database is placed abroad. I want to run my application connecting with that database. The database is SQL Server.

user correct ip and port to successfully connect to your db
string connString = "Provider=SQLOLEDB;SERVER=IP,POT; DATABASE=dbname; UID=username; PWD=password";
the following is a real time connection string 
string connString = "Provider=SQLOLEDB;SERVER=65.99.254.111,1092; DATABASE=cig; UID=cig; PWD=cig911";
make sure you had made a user in ms sql server and its password, like I have
username is "cig" and password is "cig911"

Here IP is internet database machine IP address but what is POT? Is it a Port no.? If yes which Port no.

go to
Start> All Programs> Microsoft SQL Server 2005> Configuration Tools> SQL Server Configuration Manager
There go to
SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration> Protocols for SQLExpress>TCP/IP
right click on it then Properties
in IP Addresses define in IPALL section TCP Port the one you'll have in your connection string
and make sure your firewall is not blocking that port, either turn your firewall off or enter ip and/or port firewall so it won't block that ip port

Hi,
You can create and event handler for ItemDataBound event of datagrid and assign tooltip for the column header.
protected void dg_ItemDataBound ( object sender, DataGridItemEventArgs e )
{
if ( e.Item.ItemType == ListItemType.Header )
{
e.Item.Cells[0].ToolTip = "tooltipvalue";
e.Item.Cells[1].ToolTip = "tooltipvalue";
e.Item.Cells[2].ToolTip = "tooltipvalue";
}
}
This way you can assign tooltip for all the columns in the header.

I have my website which downloads huge PDF files to the tune of 500 MB. The files had to be read and streamed by an ASP.NET HttpModule. It was working fine in the local environment.
When we transferred and deployed the application to the hosting provider, files more than 20 MB proceed to download upto 90% without any hiccup. As if pre-programmed, the download halts at this and after a while, I get the message 'Internet Explorer can not download. The connection with the server was reset'.
We were trying to look at ASP.NET Usage, TaskManager spiking or idleness of ASP.NET process (which would have deadlocked) but all these perfectly within a good equilibrium conditions.

i am using microsoft.practices.security.cryptography in VS 2.0
my code is as follows....

this is wroking when the decrypt string is large( length more than 7)
but when i am using the length less than 7
i am getting error page like this...

Hey Vinod,
Here the Encrypted Text have more than 127 character. You can decrypt only the Encrypted Text only. I think you are try to Decrypt the Normal Text itself.

Hi,
Different browsers behave differently.
the keywords they use differ.
i will give an example as to how to detect a browser and code for each one.
below is an eg for a button click event.

i have linkbutton in the datalist.eg empid
if i click on tat i have to show the detailsview of tat empid...one empid can contain many records...like contactaddress,permenent address..
how can i do this?

Hey its very simple in the detials view you can able to show only one record ie., if you click any one of the empid it will show only the details abt that empid

I am in the process of learning ASP.NET and read that when using Visual Studio 2005, you can add an existing .html file to your project and just rename it to .aspx to automatically convert it to a ASP.NET Webform. I've even seen it done on an "eLearning" video demo with Visual Studio .NET. However, when I try to duplicate the demo using Visual Studio 2005, it doesn't add the page directive like on the demo.
Anyone have a clue what I'm doing wrong?

It won't automatically add anything to the page. It will only change the file type.

changing the file type will just change the file type. Create a new page, and copy your HTML into it, being careful not to copy over the directives at the top. It will be exactly the same, but now you can add server controls and code behind, if you want to.

First off I realize this is a common issue and has plenty of people saying they have fixed it.
I am using VS 2005, programming in C# and ASP.NET. I have a GridView and an ObjectDataSource my GridView will display the data, but not update. I am using a three-tier application design. My DAL has on table with SELECT and INSERT type methods. My BLL has SELECT, UPDATE, INSERT, and DELETE methods. My presentation layer contains the ObjectDataSource and GridView.
When I attempt to update I get the following error:
ObjectDataSource 'odsSubdivisions' could not find a non-generic method 'UpdateSubdivision' that has parameters: intID, szName, szCity, szState, szZIP, szLegal, Name, City, State, ZIP Code, Legal Description.
The last 5 parameters are added by the ObjectDataSource I believe. I have set the OldValuesParameterFormatString to {0}, which most solutions say to do, yet no avail. I am not using Optimistic Concurrency either.
Any other suggestions. I'll try anything.
