You can't convert a HttpRequest object to a WebRequest object, so you have to copy the information you want from one object to the other.

Hey all,
I wanted to get some recommendations for merchant account/gateway/shopping cart solutions for a Canadian based web store.
The store is pretty typical: <100 products, physical merchandise (hats, tshirts, toys, etc.), currently considering both manual and real time transaction processing.
I'd prefer the technology solution to be ASP.NET and C#.
Has anyone implemented a similar solution and would recommend their choice of vendor?
Thx

I have a really fancy (at least to me) effect I want to use, I'm not sure where to start, what to use, or even if it's even possible. Any help would be great, I mostly need a push in the right direction.
The final result I'd like it a Bubble (crystal ball, something like that) with text in it. As the users scrolls (scroll wheel enabled) I want the text to fade in from the bottom then fade out at the top. I don't want a normal fade though, I want it to expand/shrink also so it stays with the curve of the bubble. I would also like it to be HTML compatible so I can have links, pictures, headers, etc. I want the HTML used in the bubble to be changeable on the fly so I can have AJAX update the text as links are clicked. The height/width needs to be scalable so it fills the area no mater what size the browser is. Lastly I want it cross-browser compatible.
I think that's it, I know I'm looking for a lot, but as I said I'm just looking for a direction to start in. Currently I'm pretty good in ASP.NET with VB.NET, PHP, Javascript, ASP, CSS, and HTML (duh). I'm thinking the best fix for my problem is Java or Flash, but I'm hoping to stay with what I know.
Thanks for any help given,
Nick

I'm not sure the scroll wheel will throw an event in javascript, have you found that out? There is a scroll event for elements but I'm not sure how it works (you might be able to put the text inside a scrolling div and hook into the divs scroll event to shape the text). I've no doubt it could be done with Flash (and take the content as HTML from another source).
You could easily get the 'fade' effect by using an image with a transparent ball in the middle (with some nice gradients on the top and bottom of course), and the content underneath that in the z-index order, but it won't resize the content width as it scrolls.

Consider using Flash. HTML really isn't built for this sort of thing (you could probably make it work using canvas, but that doesn't work on IE).

Hi All,
I am developing an website application for client which would be hosted by US and but it need to access client database. I have made client webservice to access database but main problem comes when pages hosted by my application need to access client webservice.
client is not ready to open up webservice to internet(quite understandable)? I was thinking of writing internet application proxy which will reside on client. It will access client webservice and also will access my pages.
Do you guys have any other idea or if there is sample code for similar idea being implemented, please forward it to me?
Thanks,
Amit

You could set up a sub-domain that is password protected and has its own database. Something like test.domain-name.com as a sub-domain of www.domain-name.com.
I do that for development and testing of new features to a production site so that only authorized people can gain access and the new features can be throughly tested on the actual web server that they will eventually be deployed on.
That model would also work for rolling out new web services. You could throughly test the services before cut over to the production domain.

Hi I am using AJAX in my my website. Its working fine on the localhost
but when i upload the application on to the server its giving the following error..
CS0234: The type or namespace name 'AsyncPostBackErrorEventArgs' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Web.UI' (are you missing an assembly reference?)
Any Help..PLz..

The server probably doesn't have the same version of AJAX ASP.NET installed as on your machine. Try to compare the versions.
|
|
|
|
|
the versions are same..
and moreover i hav another pagewith ajax in the same site and that page is working fine..
hmm..wat cud be the problem??
|
|
|
|

Well you could also compare the web.config files to see if both versions contain the same assembly references (under system.web/compilation/assemblies). Maybe the file on the production server is missing one that the local contains. If this is also not the case then I've run out of ideas..

Hi
In that case:
1. All your files should be in the main directory (C:\Inetpub\WWWRoot)
2. Go to Inetmgr -> Right Click on the Default Web site. Go to Documents Tab. Remove all the existing filenames. All your default page.
Now browse and check it.

Hello,
Is it possible to check whether a particular session of a user, for a URL is running or not from an external application or service?
For instance
If I log on to www.myweb.com with username = "me", Is it possible to check its current user's username, from a .net application or any other background process?
Thanks

hello,
i need your opinion on a design issue. we have a pretty large website with quite a lot of traffic written in asp. we are using a third party asp cache object, which makes us unhappy, due to lack of stability. now i'm confronted with the task to replace this cache object with something new.
-> the object should expose a com interface, so that it can be used from withing asp script
-> the object should be able to not only store strings, but objects as well
-> the cache manager should not run within the same process as iis
-> the cache object should be extensible, so that the a newly added server can access the same cache
-> we might port the site to asp.net sometime. it would be nice if we could the continue using the cache object
-> i'm pretty good at writing c# code but have close to no experience in writing atl/c++ stuff
how would you handle this? any ideas/help is greatly appreciated.

I need to display some information from a text log file. The information being called in is between a lead in and lead out in the log. Here is an example of what the log file looks like.
<++++++++++++++++++++>
<RECEIPT>1234
INFO INFO INFO
INFO INFO INFO
1234</RECEIPT>
<++++++++++++++++++++>
<RECEIPT>4567
INFO INFO INFO
INFO INFO INFO
4567</RECEIPT>
<++++++++++++++++++++>
As an example I want to display just the INFO for receipt 4567 and not the <RECEIPT> lines or the <+++++> lines.
I have been playing with the readfile.asp page and it will read the entire file and display it now I just need to limit that to what is between the receipt lines.
Any help will be appreciated. New to asp and web dev.

You'll need to modify the program so that rather than reading from the file and immediately outputting it, you actually look for the start and end lines, and only output the data between them.
