i don't know. i haven't seen anything that talks about it. but, if you're using the program to do something that ends up in public (like, using the code on a webserver to generate a web page hit counter, for example), then it's not really "personal" use.
save yourself the hassle, just use the PNG format. it compresses as well or better than GIF, is more flexible, has no patent concerns; the basic flavors are supported on all browsers.

Hi,
I have a listbox (CListCtrl, report style), and I feed it with data. If its contents gets too large, a scrollbar appears on the right side.
Under some circumstances, when removing some items again, empty rows rest in the control. I do not know if it has to do something with the scrollbar (e.g. only if it disappears or so).
Any suggestions ?
A bug ?
Any equal experiences ?
Heard about it already?
On the internet I found some equal situation:
Anybody aware of bug in CListCtrl
CListCtrl funny stuff (bug or incorrect use?)

I like to connect to a certain port of server on Internet. For this purpose my application uses the well known function of WinSock API, connect() having prototype :
int connect( SOCKET s,
const struct sockaddr FAR *name,
int namelen
);
But, before i use this function, i have to populate "struct sockaddr" about the port and address of server. right !!
Suppose, my client application is running on a machine behind a firewall eg SOCKS. Then please tell me how can i connect to server under this condition.
I shall be thankful if you explain me clearly or write some example pseudocode. There is an example present at CP, but it is not too good to understand and it uses MFC Socket Classes.

Sorry Nish, yo didn't get my question
I know very well how to connect to server. What i want to ask is that if firewall present at client side then how can we connect to server.

Why does all functions that you export get so wird name?
I exported ShowPopUp() from my DLL and when I "View dependencies" it had name ?ShowPopUp@@YAXXZ.
Is there a way to get the "real" name there!?
Today wasn't my day for writing English, so... hope you understand! (as you allways do)

The compiler mangles function names to support overloading!
Thus if you have void Abc(int) and void Abc(char*) obviously the compiler will have to use two different names.

I've found out how to fix it!
It worked!

I've found the solution!
I added the function name in the .def file under the EXPORTS line in the file!

Oh... so that's the "right" solution?
well... I'll try that out!
Thank you man!

I tried your advice and wrote like this:
// .h file
extern "C" void MyFunc();
// .cpp file
extern "C" void MyFunc()
{
// bla bla
}
But when I "View dependencies" there is no functions that I can see! ?

If you use extern "C" that's to avoid name mangling.
If you want to export a function you can use __declspec( dllexport )

The compiler decorates the names when you export using __declspec(dllexport). To have undecorated names, use a DEF file (as you found out)

Check out The Ultimate (DLL) Header article (in the DLL section) by Joseph Newcomer. It explains exporting, .DEF files, etc., in detail and gives a good way to manage all of this stuff.

can some give me the CODE for removing noise from an image..
thanks
looking forward from all the gurus of code

first, define "noise". different noises require different filters.

by noise i mean dat the image is blurred and dark... and this noise is giving me problems in edge detection too..
secondly if any one has got the algorithm or free source code for edge detection ..ill be higly obliged to him/her if they mail it to me
looking forward from all the gurus of code

if it's "blurred and dark" then you probably want to sharpen and lighten it or change the contrast.
digital noise removal techniques usually end up adding more "blur" to the image, as they are most often based on weighted averages of pixels in a given area (ie. they find the weighted average of the NxN pixels surrounding each input pixel and assign that value to the corresponding output pixel). the way the pixels are weighted will determine the types of noise the filter is good at removing. but, all of them blur the image in some form.
sharpening an image can be as simple as applying the appropriate convolution matrix to the image.
lightening an image is easy: just add a constant value to each pixel component; it's a linear change. changing contrast is similar, but you add a different amount to the input pixel based on its current value; it's a non-linear change.
for edge detection, look around this site (in the GDI+ section, maybe).

I am trying to use a hash_map that comes with VS.NET. The question is can I specify the size of the hash like in MFC with CMap::InitHashSize?
Thanks

I made an Excel automaion project to convert an excel document to PDF file.
In Excel 2000 (v. 9.0), it runs well with :
void PrintOut(const VARIANT& From,
const VARIANT& To,
const VARIANT& Copies,
const VARIANT& Preview,
const VARIANT& ActivePrinter,
const VARIANT& PrintToFile,
const VARIANT& Collate,
const VARIANT& PrToFileName);
But in Excel 97 (v. 8.0), a modal window asks for a PDF destination file, and i want to avoid it :
void PrintOut(const VARIANT& From,
const VARIANT& To,
const VARIANT& Copies,
const VARIANT& Preview,
const VARIANT& ActivePrinter,
const VARIANT& PrintToFile,
const VARIANT& Collate);
How can i do please ?
Thanks.

H all,
I’m having a problem using the Micsoft DOM XML-Parser in C++. After an exception has been thrown and catched on another place in the application, the following occur: Some Elements can be read but not set. When I try to set certain elements, an exception is thrown. This problem remains until the application has been restarted. Has anyone seen these problem before? Do anyone knows where to find documentation on Microsoft DOM XML parser?
The application is COM-Based, using the version 3.0 of the DOM parser and developed in Visual C++ 6.0. I'm thankful for any input on this problem,
cheers,
