For security, use LDAPS (LDAP over SSL) to encrypt the LDAP communication. This requires that the domain controllers are set up with the appropriate certificates to support LDAPS, however.

Should have 75-80% of everything you could want to know for AD coding in .Net:

DirectoryEntry de = new DirectoryEntry();
de.AuthenticationType = AuthenticationTypes.Secure;

I have created a satellite assembly, using the foll. command:
al.exe /t:lib /embed:Resource.ar.resources /culture:ar-SA /out:Resource.ar.resources.dll /keyf:keypair.snk
'Resource.ar.resources' is the resource file which is generated using resgen.exe tool.
'keypair.snk' is the keypair that is generated using sn.exe tool
Here keypair.snk is the keypair tat I generate using sn.exe tool
What is wrong with this..wen I check it in the manifest(using ildasm cmd'…some things missing in it.
When u publish a website then also the satellite assembly is created…this one wrks…and if u compare the one I created with this one then there is 'assembly extern' missing also some other things...
Kindly tell me wot to put in the al.exe command to get the missing part ...
Thanks...

How can I change the position of a Textbox via javascript.
Any help regarding this .
Thankx in advance.

You'd change the style of the textbox in order to move it, by changing it's padding, or floating it, etc.
Basically, you move it using CSS.

Hi forum,
I am looking to create a secure login to my application.
I was wondering if anyone could advise me on the best way of dealing with this
I was considering setting up a users table within my mysql database and let the asp pass the parameters to a stored procedure, but i obviously need to ensure that the data is encrpyted.
So i need to build a DAL somehow....
any help appreciated

A DAL does nothing to prove that data is encrypted, or anything else, really.
Most people worry about super secure logins on pages no-one is every going to try and hack. The main advice I'd give is, write a proc that takes a username and password and returns a bit, do not write a function that returns a password and compare it in memory.

HOw would i write that procedure
would it be it take two input parameters and pass these parameters into a select command and if these parameters match the login value will return a 1 or 0, valid or invalid?
|
|
|
|
|
Yep, thats basically how it works
only two letters away from being an asset

Don't store or pass the password, store a salted hash of the password, then when the user logs in, salt and hash the password then pass that to the database to compare.
A good article on storing passwords[^].

Cool, will have a look into that looks good never heard of a salted hash in my life, is it difficult to code?

Then do have a good read of that article )
There's plenty of built in .net functionality for encryption and hashing.
Bear in mind that if you do this you will never be able to retrieve the user's password if they forget it (hashing is one way) - you will have to generate a new password for them.
|
|
|
|
|
Thats not a problem, as can get them to enter registered mail and can get bit of code to generate a random password for them or set it to a default and return it to there mail?

I am doing an application in which i have some textboxes and 2 dropdown listes
when connecting to database and retrieving values everything works fine...
but when i click the gridview(say a row particularly,) the values in the row should populate to the corresponding textboxes..
all the values comes to textboxes... but the values to be populated to dropdownlist holds only the text of the cell content....
i need the value to be in the dropdownlist as forever till i wish to get that away...
i used the code like this...
DropDownList1.Text = GridView2.SelectedRow.Cells[1].Text.ToString();

When we user a user control, we normally create ascx file, and load it using Page.LoadControl("xxx.ascx").
My question is : if I put the ascx file in the database. how I can use the UserControl? I tried to user Page.ParseControl, It doest not work.
