OK, if what you want to do works, then it's a huge security hole, and I hope Microsoft fixes it soon.
In other words, forget it. Perhaps your intentions are benign, but you're asking how to do something that every person trying to spread a virus via the web would want to do. I'm sure there were ways to do that in 1998, but not today.

Based on your description, I doubt you'll get any help. The error you get obviously relates to a point in the code where you try to convert a string to a numeric value. Find that code, and fix it, and you'll be done. Or, perhaps the error is in the list control, your aspx is trying to bind a numeric format, and getting a string back.
Set some breakpoints and work out what data is causing the error, then you should be able to work out how to fix it.

I'm coming across a problem while trying to read values from dynamically added text boxes. This is my method:
*Create placeholder inside of the aspx.
*Read in data from sql, creating a label and textbox for each entry.
*Add those controls to the placeholder.
That works just fine. However, I can't seem to read the values from those dynamically added textboxes. When I run in debug mode, the placeholder is empty by the time the page loads. Any advice on the matter?
Thanks.

I found out that it will not delete the controls inside of the placeholder, provided I DO NOT assign the controls a unique id. This functionality is... strange at best. But I guess a part of learning a solution is becoming familiar with its quarks.

Hi everybody,
I'm new to asp.net, I was a PHP programmer so I have some questions.
How I can write something like include in asp.net, also I do not know why but master Pages do not work.
Here is the Result of Running Master page:
"The type of page you have requested is not served because it has been explicitly forbidden. The extension '.Master' may be incorrect. Please review the URL below and make sure that it is spelled correctly. "
Thanks a lot,

Master pages are not served, only aspx pages, Master pages are used as templates by the aspx pages for layout and common controls across many pages, supose you want the same navigation on every single page you would create the navigation in the master page, maybe add some logic to it and then just reference the master page from the aspx page the easiest way to do this is first create the master page, and then just right click on the master page and select the "add new content page" option from menu.
Includes is a different thing, if is logic you want you can create this logic in classes and reference them in your logic for the pages, but if what your looking is for layout I would suggest researching more on the master pages.

Thanks for your answer
Yes, I want includes for layout, but Master Pages are really better but I can't configure them correctly. So I create a Master Page, then Content page for this master page and execute this content page. Am I right?
Thanks

Hi,
I created a custom membership provider, and added it to my web.config file. Everything looks fine, but I can't test it with the ASP.NET Configuration tool.
My web.config:
<membership
defaultProvider="MyMembershipProvider"
hashAlgorithmType="SHA1"
userIsOnlineTimeWindow="15">
<providers>
<clear/>
<add
name="MyMembershipProvider"
applicationName="My"
connectionStringName="WebsiteSqlServer"
description="Stores and retrieves membership data from my database"
enablePasswordReset="true"
enablePasswordRetrieval="false"
maxInvalidPasswordAttempts="5"
minRequiredNonalphanumericCharacters="0"
minRequiredPasswordLength="8"
passwordAttemptWindow="10"
passwordFormat="Hashed"
passwordStrengthRegularExpression=""
requiresQuestionAndAnswer="true"
requiresUniqueEmail="true"
type="My.Web.Security.MyMembershipProvider, My.Web" />
</providers>
</membership>
Why doesn't this want to work?? Did I forget to add something??
Please can some one help me??
Regards

You can use a javascript to set the status bar to an empty message to prevent the javascript functions from appearing in the status bar of the browser,

i have posted a screen shot of the error message.

i seem to remember a tutor of mine mentioning that this problem can be fixed but i am a bit lost.
any help much appreciated.

Try runnign
aspnet_regiis.exe -i
from the command line, this will install asp.net extensions on your IIS,
You can find this executable in
%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\%WhateverYourFrameWorkVersionIs%

many thanks for the quick response. i have searched the four folders i have in my framework file to no avail.
there are several asp.net reg files in seperate folders, sadly none of them have fixed the problem.
any other suggestions..
the software was working fine a few days ago and the only change i can note is that i unplugged my laptop from the power,external hard drive and speakers. i havent installed any new software or anything.
computers ay, gotta love em, but sometimes they can be a right pain in the ass.
anyhow. any further help would be priceless.
cheers.

Could you try making a search on your windows directory for aspnet_regiis.exe, you say that you uninstalled VS and IIS, the thing is this error is usually caused by installing visual studio and then installing IIS, so the asp.net extensions are not installed on the IIS.

I need to transfer context information from ASP to ASP.Net. My boss told me not to do through Querystring....Please suggest some other secured alternatives.?
|
|
|
|
|
Try using the Session Object, you can set up what ever context variables while in the ASP application, and when you get to the ASP.Net application get those variables from the session.
Greets! Joel
|
|

ASP and ASP.net use different session access...
|
|
|
|
|
But both would be on different boxes?

|

If you can't use the query string, then your only real option is to do something fancy. There are solutions around on the web for moving session data between asp and asp.net. Typically, they use a unique Id gleaned from the client to store data in a windows service and pull it out on the other end.

Good morning experts,
How can I get the total number of rows in a gridview that has paging and a filter.
ex.
dw.RowFilter = strFilter 'dw is a dataview
GridView1.DataSource = dw
GridView1.DataBind()
gridview1.Rows.Count gives me the number of records in the current page
dw.Table.Rows.Count gives me the number of all records ignoring the filter.
Thanks
