Please read the forum guidelines. Some of the highlights:
This forum is not for just handing you some code. You need to code to learn. we are not going to do your homework/job for you. If you are having trouble with a specific peice of code, feel free to post that and we will help.
If you are not willing to learn, get out of coding now.

how do i get my app's taskbar item on the left most position on the start menu taskbar if there are several items on the taskbar.

Hi,
there are two ways I know of:
- close all other applications;
- more seriously: task bar is some kind of list control, it can be found if
you know the name of all the windows in its upward hierarchy; then you can
enumerate all the items, recognize the one you are interested in, and move it;
all this requires a lot of P/Invoke to call several Win32 functions.
I havent done it for task bar, I do know how to do it for the notification area,
and for desktop items; it is all similar (and quite different in the details).
Are you sure it is worth the trouble ?

Don't. You are guaranteed to annoy your users.

Public Class ControlStaffDemographics

#Region " -- Member Class: ClassGroupListItem -- "
Public Class ClassGroupListItem
Public ReadOnly Group_PK As Guid
Public ReadOnly GroupName As String
Public Sub New(ByVal group As DataRow)
Me.Group_PK = DirectCast(group.Item("Group_PK"), Guid)
Me.GroupName = group.Item("GroupName").ToString
End Sub 'New(ByVal group As DataRow)
Public Overrides Function ToString() As String
Return Me.GroupName
End Function 'ToString()

Private Sub Save()
Dim signatureStream As System.IO.Stream = New System.IO.MemoryStream()
Me.picSignature.Image.Save(signatureStream, System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat.Bmp)
'Other code removed
End Sub 'Save()
I have removed the excess code from this class for ease of reading.
My problem: The second line in the Save method executes and jumps to the overridden ToString() function in the member class. There is no reference to the class or an instance of the class. Why would the execution jump to that point? Additionally, an exception is thrown when trying to execute the ToString method.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

I've never seen anything like that. I'd try closing Visual Studio, then reopen your project, recompile it in Debug mode to regenerate the symbols database, then try it again.

Sounds good, but the same problem occurs on co-worker's computer as well.

What is a picSignature object? I'm guessing that it's a simple PictureBox, but I don't want to assume anything...

OK. I found a solution of sorts. For some reason the code execution jumps to the ToString method and then to a high level Try...Catch. I placed a local Try...Catch around the 'offending' code and catch a meaningful exception at that point. I still don't know why the code jumped to the ToString function, but at least I can now debug the actual problem.
In further insights would be appreciated, but for now I can move forward.
Thanks for the help.

Is it possible to restrict a DragDrop to certain file types only?
In my case, I'm using zip files, and I can prevent it from dropping in the DragDrop handler. However, it seems that a better place to catch it might be in DragEnter?

Oddly, you can prevent the dragDrop in the DragEnter handler by just changing the visual effect:
e.Effect = DragDropEffects.None
You'd think this would just change the cursor, but it does actually prevent the _DragDrop from firing. This has the advantage of showing the 'not allowed' cursor if they drag a file type you don't want to accept.

ASP.Net is how you use a .Net language to provide dynamic features in web pages. If you can code very well in VB.Net then it's just a matter of learning the way ASP.Net works.

What happens when you try to connect ? Probably your connection string is broken

Hi,
I am using a coloured background for my windows form application. This is fine.
However some controls I am using - I am thinking of richtextbox and listboxes in particular insist on display scrollbars in the default windows colors which is frankly annoying.
This is a general question.
If I want to change the colors of the scollbar I am guesing I need to derive a new custom control with some kind of "on paint/draw event" method overide but (and here is my Big But)
1. I can inherit a class fine and I am guess a control is similar
In a class library application:
public class mylistbox
inherits listbox
etc.
How then do you get this into the toolbox in vs2005
2. In the overidden onPaint event I dont really know how to find the scrollbars and color them (as in no clue)
Could someone give me the theory of how to do the above in detail.
thanks
