I want to access a file from a remote machine through a VB.net windows application. How it can be done?

Hi
you can do it very easily, i developed a software where my word file were saved and accessed from a single server. to do that you have to customize the accessing path for file that is : -
path="\\servername\drivename\path.extension"
*here server name is the remote computer name is your network.
*drivename is the sharable drive name of the server (but here you have to mention the share as name for the drive and dont use : after drive letter.

I'm developing an application for a samll company to handle their customers over the phone for my second year project.
What I want to know is how to set the user (administrator/client) privilages and how to validate when they are logging on to the system. What kind of security part I can include for this project and how should I retreive data from the SQL database.

Are you looking to do this from the database level or from within your app?

I want to do it in database level

Have you put a table in the database for holding user info such as name, password, permissions, etc? You could also just create user accounts on the database with different permissions on different tables and views/queries. The second option maybe a tough one if you have a large set of users.

i want use global variable for accessing in all the form in my projects
how ?

The easiest way is to add a new Module to your project. Modules are forms without graphics, and their greatest feature is that variables in them that are declared "public" or "friend" are visible in all parts of your project.
Thus, create a module (modGlobals is a good name) and put a line like this in it
Friend gsMyString as String = Nothing
and all of your forms and other modules can access this variable.
Hope this will help you.

I have a scrollable panel box which have many picturebox with different location with different image .
now i want to save or print that panel container.
any one help me.
What do you want to "save"? The locations of the pictureboxes? The images in them?
i want to save panel. means panel with all picturebox in a single picture.
when that panel is saved as picture i can easily print that picture with printdocument1.document.
In that case, you'll have to create a new Bitmap, the size of the Panel. Then, iterate through the pictureboxes on the Panel and get their images and draw them onto this Bitmap object. Then you can call the Save method on the Bitmap to save the image.

Okay... I'm sure there's a name for it, and that it can be done, but I don't know how. I have a windowsform app made in VB.NET 2005. It's essentially a custom Windows Media Player. I would like to be able to make it so I can embed my app into a web page like youtube does with theirs. I don't want to use existing media player (yes I know you can do that) but my own. Can anyone help?
Thanks

If you have your custom form as a class library, then you should be able to. Have you got this problem working?

Not yet... I'm not sure where to start. I guess making it a class library is a start... that's easy enough, then what?

Take a look at this article.
VB.NET Class Library: Access Table Interface
The Access Table Interface class gives you the ability to query your database with either a default or any SQL statement. The results of the SQL queries are exposed in a datatable property.

How can i save data from datagrid(after papulating ) without using for loop in vb.net 2005
You can't. The DataGrid just displays the data and lets you edit it. The data should be stored in a DataSet or DataTable, both of which expose methods for you to save the data to an XML file.
It depends on how you are populating the datagrid. If populating is done by adding items directly to the datagrid, the only way to save changes made in the datagrid is by looping through all of those items.
If, on the other hand, you are using a datatable as the data source for the datagrid, it is possible to save changes enmass without using a loop. For example, the Access Table Interface class extracts data from an Access database and exposes the extracted data in a datatable property. If that datatable property is set as the data source for the datagrid, all edits done in the datagrid will also be posted to the data source. The edited data can be posted back to the database with one call to the Access Table Interface's UseCommandBuilder method.
