Suggestion 1) You'll get a quicker answer if you post questions like this in the correct forum.

Has anyone got any recommendations on training providers in the UK? Any positive stories, any bad experiences?
PS I mention Computeach, as I've just sent off for one of their brochures
PPS I'm particularly interested in Microsoft certifications, but any experiences of UK training providers welcome.

Two years ago, I landed a great job reporting directly to the director of my department. I was told that I had the freedom to dream and create some wonderful apps for my department and to bring that energy to other departments in the organization. I did just that, got glowing performance reviews, fantastic feedback from the customers and coworkers, and began to tip the culture out of its old way of thinking. My boss has been working on a reorganization for a couple months and told me not to worry about our reporting relationship and my role in the organization.
Can anyone guess what happened?
Now I am to report not directly to him, but to someone who is non-technical who reports to the boss. This person has an amazing ability to make people so mad that they want to punch him, and now I have to take direction from him. How have you people handled this situation? Should I pitch a fit in the hopes the big boss will change his mind? Should I polish up my resume and be glad that I had it good for a couple years? Should I just keep my head down and shut up? I feel lied to, betrayed, and generally pissed on.

I'm been having kind of a running argument about programmer productivity in a c++ type environment about how many line of code a programmer should be producing.
YES, I know that this is a hot topic with no good answers.
However, I'm looking for suggestions about what would be reasonable number. I've seen stats saying about 9K/year. He is saying about 1k-2k/week of fully debugged code. I think that number is a "little" high. But I don't have any data to back that up.
Anyone out there have an idea what a reasonable number is or where I can get some information?

Well, it depends on what the developer's role really is. If they end up stuck in meetings for hours per week the KLOCs will go down. If they are a dedicated code monkey the number will go up (but, I'm betting the quality will go down)
There is no answer to this question. It was a hot topic years ago and I really had thought it had dropped off the radar and crash landed somewhere. IMO it is not a valid metric to measure developer productivity.

What is a line of code ?
Do these count:
- empty lines (cosmetic reasons or other)
- comment lines (I hope they count)
- just a curly brace (the westcoast-eastcoast debate)
And should your stats go up:
- when duplicating code from one class to the next
- when splitting a declaration with initializer in two lines
...
And should your stats go down:
- when you solve the job with fewer lines (by being more clever about it, not
by putting more on a line);chances are there are fewer bugs.
- when you find ways to reuse existing code
...
etc.
Hence, it makes no sense to me either.

There is lots of opportunity

I'd imagine that's perhaps not enough for you to do well outside of sites like rentacoder, where you can find lots of work, but only at very low rates of pay

I was informed on Friday that, because my current boss will be moving to a different unit in the company, I am now going to have my time split between my current unit and a second unit. This means I will now have two different bosses that I report to. Also, because they are directors of two different units I imagine that their goals will be different and I will be torn in both directions.
Anyone have experience with this? I'm thinking of a jumping ship, I've been somewhat unsatisfied lately anyway.

before you jump ship bring the 2 bosses together:
(_) + (_) = (_)_) get the piucture LOL
discuss a plan of action to avoid the kind of frustration you're feeling, with both parties present at the same time... this will make light of the resource conflict!
you know they are ppl too, i am sure if you bring up your point nicely they will understand and work together to find a common solution...if that fails then bail out like a rat in a sinking ship!!!!

I'd be asking questions up front like 'is my time split 50/50 between the bosses', and perhaps even asking on what days you are answerable to each boss.

I agree. He needs to get the facts straight with the two bosses how things are going to be done. Sounds like a headache waiting for the OP.

This is not an unusual situation. I have worked in this type of "matrix" organization for my entire career.
It sounds like you need to ask some simple questions.
First off, are these "bosses" functional managers, responsible for resource assignments, evaluations, promotions, etc. OR are they project managers responsible for schedules, milestones, resource determination (identifying what resources are needed and working to get those resources from the functional managers).
Without knowing you situation in detail, I am fairly confident that you have just 1 functional manager that will be responsible for your evaluations, employee type issues, etc.
You can easily have two or more project managers that you are required to work for, supporting each managers project. In that case, you do need to make it clear (or have it clarified for you) how much of your week is supposed to be spent working each project. Sometimes I find myself working 20% on 1 project and 80% on another. Typically you will have different charge numbers for your timecards so that this allocation of time can be properly billed to the corresponding project status.
I would recommend that you do not jump ship for this reason. You are likely to encounter it again. If you have other reasons for leaving your company, then you have some decisions to make. Keep in mind that the additional project may bring some variety and greater satisfaction to your job.
Just my two cents.

The company will expect x hours' output. Each boss will expect x/2 hours' output. In reality dividing your attention between 2 bosses goals will take y hours so your output is x-y. Each boss will get (x-y)/2 so they're both likely to be disappointed with you (unless you secretly put in the y hours at your own expense... bad idea).
Jumping ship looks attractive, but only if you have somewhere to jump to. Are you in a port? Is there a suitable island within swimming distance?
I don't envy your position. "Better the devil(s) you know..." vs "Out of the frying pan..."
Good luck choosing.

There are two vbs files say test.vbs and test1.vbs.I am calling test1.vbs from within the test.vbs.Moreover I have to pass the filename as parameter from test.vbs which can be used in the second vbs ie test1.vbs.
I need the code for it.or tell some url which can help me in achieving it.

The only way to do that is to pass those values as command line parameters when your 1st vbs file launched the second vbs file.
The second vbs file will then have to parse the command line argument to get the values into the appropriate variables.

I need a complete code which will help me to upload the csv file to ftp server. Its urgent.. and even some url names.
