I have an ASP.NET web application that needs to retrieve an assembly name from a database and then call the appropriate assembly when a page loads. For example, I have a function in an assembly such as MyCompany.MyFunction() and a function/assembly of CustomCompany.MyFunction(). Is the InvokeMember() the best method?
Thanks

You can create the class instance using activator class.

I'm trying to wrap ASP.net access around a classic ASP site. The reasons aren't important, and I can't refactor the site into .Net (it's not funded and I've been expressly told not to do it). So I a the .Net stuff written, but when I try to run the website from within VS2005, I get the following error message:
<br />
<big>This type of page is not served.</big><br />
<br />
Description: The type of page you have requested is not served because it has been explicitly forbidden. The extension '.asp' may be incorrect. Please review the URL below and make sure that it is spelled correctly. <br />
<br />
Requested URL: /mysite/CACLogin/SiteMain/myfile.asp<br />
It seems that the internal web server in VS2005 does not allow classic ASP pages to be served. Is there a way to turn this restriction off?
I don't have IIS installed on my system, and I don't want to install it. I want to be able to run the whole site from within VS2005.

It's not allowed because it's not supported.

No. As the ASP.NET Development Server does not support ASP pages, it's not a restriction, it's a limitation.
I want to be able to run the whole site from within VS2005.
That is not possible without installing IIS.

If I install IIS, will VS2005 see it and run the website in it instead of the internal server?

No. You decide when you create the project if it will create a web site in IIS or use the internal web server.
Perhaps it's possible to change an existing project to use IIS, but I haven't explored this possibility.

No - if you want to test using IIS, just browse to the site, then if you want to debug, attach the debugger to the aspnet process.
I was just coming back to check on what we talked about last night, you still need to use ASP.NET and not just .NET ?

Are you sure IIS is installed and working? Can you start a new web project in VS?
Did you give your computer the same anme as before when you re-installed the OS?
If so, then if nothing else works, just create a new project, delete the default page it creates, copy your old project files into the folder and use Solution Explorer to inlcude them in your new project. Set your references, and you should be away.

Hello Everyone,
Can anybody let me know how to bold a select text of a textbox in ASP.NET1.1 with c#
Thnx in advance
|
|
|
|
|
You can't, as a textbox does not support formatting. You need to use a richtextbox for that.

Hi, suppose I have queried my database, filled the dataset, and bound the listbox to the datasource like the following
<br />
myCon = New OdbcConnection("Driver={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver};Server=myServer;Database=myDB;User=myUser;Password=myPW;Option=3;")<br />
cmd = New OdbcCommand("SELECT * FROM myTable where Professions = '" & ListBox2.Items(i).Text & "'")<br />
<br />
myCon.Open()<br />
<br />
cmd.Connection = myCon<br />
<br />
Dim ds As New DataSet<br />
<br />
Dim ad As New OdbcDataAdapter(cmd)<br />
<br />
ad.Fill(ds)<br />
<br />
Me.ListBox2.DataSource = ds<br />
<br />
Me.ListBox2.DataBind()<br />
How do I display the data retrieved from the database in the text area of my form? Do I have to set the content type of the data before I can display them in the text area? I've looked in to this and found the following tags for displaying text in thetext area
<textarea name="contents">[retrieved database value]</textarea> What would go in the [retrieved database value] part of the code? I suspect I am going to need the ID from the ID field of the database to make this work. Please show me what I am missing in my code above that is critical to making this work. Thank you in advance for your help.

instead of an html textarea use an asp:Textbox with it's multiline property set to true - this will render as a textarea - and then simply set it's Text property to the appropriate dataset field in your code behind.

Hi, thanks for responding, but how do I control the number of results displayed per page.

Use custom paging using stored procedure. You can use hyperlinks to navigate through the pages.

I was wondering what the typical site structure is that people use for asp.net sites?
I am using C# asp.net 2.0 and have a default.aspx page which points to a master page, MasterPage.master (which contains references to images, javascript, etc).
I would like to organise sub-areas like: mysite.com/subdir/Default.aspx
So I created this above page, and reference the MasterPage.master, but when I navigate to this page (during run mode) the images and javascript are messed up since they're all being referenced from the directory above (in which the masterpage resides).
Is there an elegant way of getting around this problem? I was thinking of creating a 'sub-level' master page but this won't be ideal since then any changes to the masterpage will require double the efforts (which kind of goes against what a master page is about anyway!)
Do most asp.net sites ONLY use the root directory?
Any help much appreciated!

One thing I learned when using Master Pages and wanted the Master in its own directory (which I think is a good idea) is with all the images, style sheets, .js files and such to add this around them:
<%=ResolveClientUrl("~/YourDirectory/YourStyleSheet.css") %>
<%=ResolveClientUrl("~/YourDirectory/YourImageName.jpg") %>
<%=ResolveClientUrl("~/YourDirectory/YourScriptName.js") %>
Then (of course) replace my place holders with your information (example, your header is located in images/main_images then the tag around the header image would be
<%=ResolveClientUrl("~/images/header.jpg") %>
Hope this at least gets yous tarted.
