you can use dataview to sort the records.
assign the table.defaultview with the dataview.
Then you can sort it with the column name.
dim dtview as new dataview=table.defaultview
dtview.sort(columnName)

Now there is a column Customer Name,
I want to sort this Data Grid with the help of this column. Is there any method with the help of which I can sort it. I want to sort this Data with the Data Which is in this Column, not with Data base table.

I am currently writing a dynamic asp.net site, but I want to find out what the implications will be if I save the content of the pages in the database and load it when the user selects the page.
Reason I want to do this is that I want to add a content editor to the site, so if the editor wants to update the text of the page, he/she only updates the value from the database, this will be done through an editing page.
So back to my question, how will this influence search engine crawlers when the try to crawl my site, will they still be able to view the content(do they surf the same as users) or are they going to skip it because there is no actual content on the page itself?
Thanks in advance

The content will be crawled, subject to the same caveats/conditions as a page saved as a bog standard html file.
If you think about it, it makes sense because content is merely passed across as a stream regardless as to whether or not it's a web browser or a spider.

Yes that's true. But I heard that static pages are more indexed on search engines than dynamic one. We have a habit of making static pages to get good indexing, and I think it is working too. What do you think ?

Search engines don't like (or at lest didn't like in past) links like
/products.aspx?product=12345&category=15
What they do like, however is
/products/televisions/myCoolTV.html
There is no way for spider to know that behind second link is actualy dynamic content just as in first case. It's called URL rewriting and it's one of Search Engine Optimalization techniques. Google for SEO, and you will get some more info (and sh*tload of bs too, good luck ).

Hi,
I am still using VB.NET 1.1. I have to modify existing code. There is a datagrid. And the price column is bound like this:
<asp:BoundColumn DataField="Price" HeaderText="Price" DataFormatString="{0:c}"></asp:BoundColumn>
And the code behind looks like:
Me.dgVolumeDiscounts.DataSource = ds.Tables(0)
There is about 50 million methods calls just to the details from the database. I need to add 20% to the price column. How do I do this?
Please can someone help me?
Regards,
ma se

First you have to decide if you want to change the value when you read it from the database into the DataTable, or if you want to change the value when you display it.
ma se wrote: There is about 50 million methods calls just to the details from the database.
What do you mean to say by that? Is it that there is a lot of code to change, a lot of data in the database, or that the data is used frequently?

Hi Guffa,
Looking at:
Me.dgVolumeDiscounts.DataSource = ds.Tables(0)
THis goes through about 10 mothod calls just to get the values, which I am thinking not to change the DA classes as I am scared it messes things up in the rest of the core section.
I'm using a DataSet. The best way would be to change it when it is displayed?
Here is the rest of my code:
Dim ds As DataSet = CatalogServices.ProductVolumeDiscounts.GetForProduct(productID)
If Not ds Is Nothing Then
If ds.Tables.Count > 0 Then
If ds.Tables(0).Rows.Count > 0 Then
Me.pnlVolumeDiscounts.Visible = True
Me.dgVolumeDiscounts.DataSource = ds.Tables(0)
Me.dgVolumeDiscounts.DataBind()
End If
End If
End If
Please help.

ma se

That depends. Have you considered changing the data before it gets into the DataSet?
Does "dg" stand for DataGrid? Then you have an ItemDataBound event that you can use to manipulate each item after they have been databound.

Looking for some pointers on how best to accomplish the following task:
I'm building a time sheet/time tracking page for our department to track hours logged against various projects and whatnot - not necessarily a full-in timesheet app, but some of the basic principles anyway.
I have a vertical table that stores the time entries for each day. It is structured as follows:
PersonID
ProjectID
HoursLogged
DateLogged
What is the best approach to display and edit this info? Ideally, I'd have a 'grid' layed out on the page: projects in a dropdown and a 7 columns (one for each day of the week) with a textbox for entering/editing the hours logged. Users need to be able to enter time logged for any number of projects for a given week - say 5-10 total rows.
Currently, I've got an Access database handling this task and it builds a multi-column array, displays it on the page, and after updates are made, rebuilds the array, deletes the existing set of records, and inserts the new. Kind of FUBAR'd, but it works.
Really struggling how to go about this with ASP.NET. Any pointers or examples? Tried searching, but really don't know where to start.

Web application don't have any RichEditor controls. You need to make use of IFrame and Javascript to create one. Or you will get lot of opensource editors which can be customized for your requirement. Check FckEditor[^]
