Yeah, but support for it is all but dead.

Oh I don't doubt that. The question becomes, is it still available??

Very good point, it's hard to know with all the other Add-ins that appear when I attempt to look around. Well I guess I'll continue asking around, and searching. Definitley will need it for tommorrow because otherwise, I'll have to continue going through the code slowly and loosing lots of time.

I'm writing a device application. For the debugging I'm using the emulator Visual Studio provides. The problem is that I cannot get the emulator to connect to our network in order to query a database table. The computer I'm developing this on is connected to the network through a network cable but how can I get the emulator use this connection to query a table?

This depends on which version of the enumator you're using, but you can click on the Device Options button just to the right of the dropdown that lets you select the device/emulator to use. You'll get a dialog that let's you pick the device/emulator and configure it's options. Click the emulator you're using, then click Properties. You get another dialog with a Network tab that lets you enable the emulators network support and pick the real network adapter to bind it to.

hi
i have a problem with saving a control along with its properties and retrieving it back..
1. i'm using property grid control to set the properties for a control that is stored in or for a newly added control in run time.
2. after setting the properties for that control i've to save that control and to retieve that control for alteration
kindly help me to solve this

There's a reason why the Control class, which all controls derive from, is not attributed Serializable. Not all properties of a control can be serialized easily.
You'd have to write your own code to serialize the controls in your collection. You'd probably limit your serializer to only those properties you are interested, like Location, Size, Text, ..., for each type of control, and look at only those properties for that type of control.
You can get a feel for a deserializer by looking at a blog post by Beth Massi[^] on the subject of Dynamic Programming.

Hi,
I have 5 PCs with one Server, I want to deploy one Vb.net application. I installed it on Server PC.
Now, I need to run that application from clients without installation on clients.
VB 6.0 support it (provided if I run application setup first time) all .exe files from server.
How, I can do in VB.net (for DLL & other application files)

You need to have the appropriate .Net framework installed on each client. Then just run the app from a network share. You might come across some permission problems but they are easy enough to solve with a few searches.

Good, decided .net framework installed
I have the following files in Share folder:
abc.exe (application required to run)
reports.dll app. ext.
reports PDB file
interop.SQLDMO.dll app.ext.
interop.scripting.dll app.ext.
dataaccesslayer.dll
dataaccesslayer PDB file
application starts from network share folder but then generates lot of errors & terminate

Go to MSDN and search for "Code Access Security". You'll need to understand it completely to deploy your app in a situation like you've described.
By default, managed code running from a non-local source, i.e.: network share, is not trusted and runs in restricted sandbox. You have to either modify the app and/or tell each workstation to trust the source of the code.

i have a table contain names of clients using sql server 2000
this name contain ("maged","ehab"...... and so on
my question is is there anyway to change all this names to one name at runtime by writing any other name in textbox
Example:
i have in my table :
maged
ehab
hayny
i want to change all those for example to:
maged
maged
maged
that's all
it's urgent plz
|
|
|
|
|
You have to just write a simple UPDATE query for this....
|
|
|
|
|
Give your message titles some kind of meaning other than 'help' or 'urgent.' If you continue very few people will help you.

I have stored in my db the following:
name of form
name of button
shortcut key
function
now I want to create a class wich will make it easy for programmers to implement shortcut keys on the form (they are different on each form)
I can do everything except the actual calling of the code that needs to run (wich can also be different on every form)
this is what I have that works (when I know wich function to call)
Dim myChildForm As globalInterface = DirectCast(frm, globalInterface)<br />
myChildForm.edit()
is it possible to replace the last code by something wich will accept a string
I thought about 'CallByName' but I can't seem to get it working
and if not possible any idee on how I can solve this another way?

How can we auto generate Label and Text Box on Page Load...
|
|
|
|
|
Smells like an ASP.NET question to me.
The issue you have is, if you don't create it until page load, it's never going to have any viewstate. However, you can create them anytime you like, you just need a control on the page whose controls collection you can add it to.

I have the following function that checks the availability of an SMTP server.
<br />
Private Enum SMTPResponse As Integer<br />
CONNECT_SUCCESS = 220<br />
GENERIC_SUCCESS = 250<br />
DATA_SUCCESS = 354<br />
QUIT_SUCCESS = 221<br />
End Enum<br />
<br />
<br />
Public Shared Function IsServerAvailable(ByVal Address As String) As Boolean<br />
Try<br />
Dim IPhst As System.Net.IPHostEntry = System.Net.Dns.GetHostEntry(Address)<br />
Dim endPt As New System.Net.IPEndPoint(IPhst.AddressList(0), 25)<br />
Dim socket As New System.Net.Sockets.Socket(endPt.AddressFamily, System.Net.Sockets.SocketType.Stream, System.Net.Sockets.ProtocolType.Tcp)<br />
socket.Connect(endPt)<br />
If Not CheckResponse(socket, SMTPResponse.CONNECT_SUCCESS) Then<br />
socket.Close()<br />
Return False<br />
Else<br />
Return True<br />
End If<br />
Catch<br />
Return False<br />
End Try<br />
End Function<br />
<br />
Private Shared Function CheckResponse(ByVal Socket As System.Net.Sockets.Socket, ByVal ExpectedResponse As SMTPResponse) As Boolean<br />
Dim sResponse As String<br />
Dim iResponse As Integer<br />
Dim bytes(1024) As Byte<br />
<br />
While Socket.Available = 0<br />
System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(100)<br />
End While<br />
<br />
Socket.Receive(bytes, 0, Socket.Available, Net.Sockets.SocketFlags.None)<br />
sResponse = System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetString(bytes)<br />
iResponse = Convert.ToInt32(sResponse.Substring(0, 3))<br />
If iResponse <> CType(ExpectedResponse, Integer) Then<br />
Return False<br />
Else<br />
Return True<br />
End If<br />
End Function<br />
The problem is, it always returns false with the error :-
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it
Any assistance of resolving this problem, would be gratefully received.
Thanks

Find out if your ISP/Company's ISP/Corporate firewall allows outbound connections on port 25. It is commonly blocked to try and stop zombie spam mailbots.
|
|
|
|
|
I had already considered the firewall issue and do not believe that is the source of error, although I maybe wrong.
The server does require a user name and password, before I can send an email, so do I need to specify these when attempting to make a connection?
I suppose I could change my function to connect to the mailbox rather than the server.

What happens if you just do a port ping from your machine to the SMTP server on port 25?
|
|
|
|
|
I finally got to the bottom of my problem.
I have McAfee AV Enterprise v8.5 installed, which has a section within it called "Access Protection". Within this section you can define rules such as block all programs sending data via Port 25. I had not included my program into the exceptions list.
So you where close when said to check out my firewalls.
Thanks
