I'm not entirely sure what you're asking about... But I think you might be able to find a solution through javascript. You can use the function window.open() to open a page (typically used for a popup.) If you do that, on the newly opened page you can refference the page that opened it, via window.opener. So window.opener.close() would close the page that opened the current open, provided the current one was opened via window.open().
I hope that helps answer the question?

I'm sorry to report that you are hopelessly lost. For several days now you've asked questions that indicate that you think that webforms are like winforms. I recommend you buy a book on ASP.NET and read it really fast, before your boss/client realises just how far you are out of your depth.

Please, please could somebody tell a real Newbie to .NET and ASP.NET how to create an ASP.NET page using VB with a page of thumbnails which if clicked on brings up the PDF page in full screen size.
Ultimately I will be obtaining the PDF documents from a database (Oracle BLOBs).
If anyone can assist with any part of this, even just how to bring up a simple PDF, I would be deeply grateful as I have to come up with an urgent solution.
Will I need special components? If so what do I need?
Please give detailed instructions (nothing is too obvious) - or ideally a sample app.
Thanks so much

Where are you getting the thumbnails from (off the database, etc)?

I was hoping for a method of converting the PDF to thumbnail but have since realised that I should preferably store a thumbnail in the database together with the hi-res. Any suggestions on how this could best be achieved?
Thanks again...

There are a number of libraries you can buy, some free ones, etc. ASP.NET has nothing to do with it, it's pure graphics code that these libraries use, which generates bitmaps you can display on a form, or serve to a page.
Dundas has an excellent library that is AJAX enabled, if you're willing to pay for a library.

What kind of 2D/3D charts are you looking to do? Line charts, pie charts, columns, etc?

There is a series of articles on this site about a bug tracking tool call Swat, and the author does it in ASP.NET. He includes a simple chart library. There are other chart libraries I've seen around here, do a search on charts in the article search and you may find them

Hi all,
I am making oledb connection for reading excel file.
when this code is executed from the server which has this code then every thing is
ok but when this code is executed from other computer in a browser,
error occured related to opening the connection.
error message is:
-----------------
objEx {"The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file 'C:\\Documents and
Settings\\lc\\Desktop\\CommissionReports\\Latestfiles\\latest
files\\Download0507tu.xls'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or
you need permission to view its data."} System.Exception
{System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException}
BUT file is not opened by any other user.Every PC other than server(where code exists) gives this error message.
Server(where code exists) executes the code successfully.
code looks like:
----------------
string connection = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source= "+ path1 + "
;Extended Properties=\"Excel 8.0;IMEX=1;\"";
OleDbConnection con = new OleDbConnection(connection);
string str1 = "select * from [" + sheetName + "$]";
OleDbDataAdapter adp = new OleDbDataAdapter(str1, con);
ds = new DataSet();
adp.Fill(ds);
Please give suggestion for this problem.

Hi...
How can i perform the body Onload event of a content page, while using Master Page. Since there is only one body tag in the Master Page.
Thanks in Advance

Put an id and runat="server" in the body control so that you can reach it from code behind. Put a property in the master page that exposes the control publically, so that you can reach it from the content page. In the content page you have to cast the Page.Master property to the actual class of the master page to be able to reach the property in the master page.

Hello,
You can add the following code to the aspx page
<br />
<script type="text/javascript"><br />
<!--<br />
function LoadPage(event)<br />
{ <br />
alert('Load')<br />
}<br />
<br />
document.body.onload=LoadPage; <br />
</script><br />
It's strange but it works only if you write rigth in aspx file, it did not work when I try to use RegisterStartupScript.
I hope this will help you : )

No predefined controls available. You need to write one from scratch.

Hi,
Navaneeth thanks for your prompt response. Can you give me a guideline on how to go about it? Thanks for your time.

I am not sure about what I am telling, but you need to start WebControlLibrary project to start with control creation. You will get overrided Render() method which have HTMLTextWriter object as parameter. Using this, write HTML code for your combo box to the response. You won't be able to use classical HTML select control. Create a div element and add image tags into it. Using javascript you can make a feel of dropdownlist.
Before doing all these, do a quick search for any opensource projects. If you are developing one like this, I am sure it is time consuming.
