if s = your string returned fromt he database, you'd use
s.replace(vbCrLf, "<br />")
in VB - you'll have to look up the C++ or C# versions yourself if you need them... but the VB constant vbCrLf is just the carriage-return line-feed characters which are Chr(13) and Chr(10), so you can maybe work this out yourself... ie, the VB equivalkent is
s.replace(Chr(13) & Chr(10), "<br />")
(it's probably the same in C except for the ; at the end)

<asp:sqldatasource id="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" connectionstring="<%$ ConnectionStrings:vpx_newConnectionString %>"
="" selectcommand="SELECT [pname], [pdescription] FROM [vpx_products]" oldvaluesparameterformatstring="original_{0}">
Dim s As String = SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand("pdescription")
s.replace(Chr(13) & Chr(10), "")

well, no.. you either need to do this (sort of thing) in the ItemDatabound event, or else in the ItemTemplate of your datalist control instead of just binding it directly to the pdesciption field you have to call a function to format the display, passing the data as argument
<ItemTemplate>
<%# myFormatFunction( DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "pdescription") ) %>
</ItemTemplate>
Then in your code behind the function would be
Function myFormatFunction (ByVal s As String) As String
Return s.replace(vbCrLf, "<br />")
End Function

Afternoon guys and gals.
Have a "fun" issue to track down in our web app. One of the features is that from a popup window, the user can click a button and another popup window appears, with a PDF report viewer. On some machines, the window pops up, but the report doesn't (our waiting spinner just sits there spinning away). This is irritating enough, but to add insult to injury, when this popup window is closed, it's immediately re-displayed with the report as it should be.....
Anyone have any ideas? The viewer is not an activeX - it uses response.write to send the pdf as a bytestream, so it's probably not an IE security issue (is it?)
There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to which machines are affected - IE6 / IE7 / Various security zones and settings changed, but to no avail.....
Anyone? Anyone at all? Come on - don't be shy!

I think it is a PDF Plugin issue.

Unfortunately not - as I mentioned, it's not actually using a plugin per-se - it's using Active reports to generate a file, splitting the file into bytes and sending down the wire as application/pdf. Added to which, the report is actually dispalyed once the window's closed - it's kinda like a "blocking" issue - but there's nothing that I can see that would block it lol

When you are trying to list items in a ddl, is it best to do it from the Item List collection or to a table, for instance in SQL Server? Thanks...
|
|

It depends. If you have a simple Yes and No in your drop down the probably not. If you have items that may be changing, it might make sense to load it from SQL. Sometimes it depends on what your client is willing to pay for.

oh..ok, thanks. I had 55 names I added using the Item List. I converted an Access database to SQL Server for someone, but there's no data in it. I guess later whatever she wants, it can be changed. Thanks for your time, have a good day.

I need help on Crystal Reports or Reporting Services.
I have some variables that I get it from the user as textbox or dropdownlist control than pass it to the Crystal Report or the Reporting services.
But, I can not do this. I don't know how to pass the variables (parameters) I get from the user and show the Crystal Report to the user.
Could someone tell me how to do this please.
Thank you so much in advance.
