I'm installing a web page based on one of the MS templates at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/asp.net/Aa336613.aspx(the "personal" template, 2nd one down)
When running the site on the host, I get a "Server Error in '/' Application." error . What is more, the error references a line of code in the App_Code Folder >> PageBase.vb file, specifically
Return HttpContext.Current.Profile("StylesheetTheme").ToString()
If I comment out the property that the above line is from, the page loads, but stripped of any formatting. Now, the odd part is, I don't need any database connection yet for this page - just static pages - so I have removed all Datagrids and such that reference the database.
I'm still a bit fuzzy on how Themes work, except that they are some sort of server-side version of CSS. Any idea what is causing this error? Thank you for any suggestions!
Here is what that whole PageBase file looks like:
Imports System.Web.UI<br />
Imports System.Web<br />
<br />
''' <summary><br />
''' Base class for all pages in the application.<br />
''' </summary><br />
Public Class PageBase<br />
Inherits Page<br />
<br />
''' <summary><br />
''' Override the <see cref="Page.StyleSheetTheme" /> property to use the current user's profile.<br />
''' </summary><br />
''' <remarks>The reason for using the <see cref="Page.StyleSheetTheme" /> property instead of <br />
''' <see cref="Page.Theme" /> is the resulting output:<br />
''' StyleSheetTheme CSS files get output at the very beginning of the <head> element in the source, <br />
''' whereas Theme CSS files get output at the end. We're using IE-specific conditional comments in the <br />
''' masterpage that *must* be interpreted after the main style sheet, so we have to output the link to the <br />
''' main style sheet as early as possible.</remarks><br />
''' <br />
Public Overrides Property StyleSheetTheme() As String<br />
Get<br />
Return HttpContext.Current.Profile("StylesheetTheme").ToString()<br />
End Get<br />
Set(ByVal value As String)<br />
HttpContext.Current.Profile("StylesheetTheme") = value<br />
End Set<br />
End Property<br />
<br />
End Class

When you configure your SqlDataSource1 make sure you select all from the table and also click on the advanced botton when the new window appears, make sure you check both radio botton and try again

Hi, I starting to development two applications connected to the same MSSQL server one is the back-end and the other one is the front end. I want to do it that way for security proposes, but I came across with saving the path of the images in the database. Since both ends are in different folder or application, if I save the path relate to one application I won’t be able to see it in the other, also I don’t want to have the images duplicated. Any subjection or idea how is that made?

There are three columns in a datagrid and first column will always contains values(for ex 4 records) but the second & third column may contain only 1 value or 4 records so kindly let me know in this type of scenario how to merge the rows and display the single value in middle against the first column values.
Thanks In Advance

Try
char t = (char)8800;
test.Items.Add( t.ToString() );
Check here[^] for different codes.

Don't know visual basic, but you have to cast the 8800 to a char. You are using 8800 as a string which is wrong.
try
Dim t As Char = ChrW(8800)
ListBox1.Items.Add(t.ToString())
That is a guess as I can't test VB here. I just googled around a bit.

Hi Chandrasekhar
It is best you reply to my original message and not start a new thread. I don't know the product, but I would have thought there would be plenty of samples provided with the Dundas framework, and also from the Dundas website. Do Dundas have a help forum? This forum is for ASP.NET, not for supporting 3rd Party products. Sorry.
Try clicking here for Dundas Forums[^]

Please read the forum guidelines. Asking the same question four times will result in people ignoring you and you never getting help.

Dundas have support forums, that's the place to be.

Hi all,
Im having a little problem retrieving the text from the textarea. I load the text for the text area and display it as follow in the aspx page.
<textarea id="editorArea" name="htmlEditorArea" rows="40" cols="60">
<%=editorAreaText %>
</textarea>
and then in the code behind I want to retrieve the text that has been modified by the user. I tried the following.
HtmlTextArea _textArea = (HtmlTextArea)Page.FindControl("editorArea");
string _content = _textArea.Value.Trim();
But it returns the HtmlTextArea as null and then throws the exception when getting the value that object reference not set to an instance of an object, I know this is because it did not assign the control, but what am I doing wrong?
thanks in advance

Can you not use ASP.NET controls?
<asp:TextBox Rows="40" Columns="60" TextMode=MultiLine></asp:TextBox>
And in the codebehind
string myText = myID.Text;

Unfortunitly not, or I don't know how, the reason being is I'm using a WYSIWYG editor that changes the textarea to an htmlarea, I found it here, it is called HtmlArea.
Basically I have a master page with all my content pages. Each of my content pages contains one of these textareas and it uses the name of the textarea to change it into a HtmlArea, so basically on the content page I have the following.
<textarea id="editorArea" name="htmlEditorArea" rows="40" cols="60">
<%=editorAreaText %>
</textarea>
<asp:Button runat="server" ID="btnSave" Text="Save Changes" OnClick="btnSave_Click" />
<asp:Button runat="server" ID="btnCancel" Text="Cancel Changes" PostBackUrl="~/index.aspx" />
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript1.2">
var config = new Object();
config.bodyStyle = "background-color:black;color:white";
editor_generate('htmlEditorArea',config);
</script>
Thing is because I use a master page, and this is my own conclusion, when I run the page it changes the name of my textarea if it is an asp:textarea and then the editor can't locate the texterea anymore. So I'm kinda forced to use htmltextarea

What editor are you using to do this?

OK - you need to post the question on the message board on the article - the original author will be able to help. I don't know what he is doing under the covers. Unless somebody else around here can help? Sorry.

So the way that I am trying to retrieve the text from the textarea is correct and should work?

As far as I know, the only way the server (codebehind) can access the control is if it has the runat='server' attribute.
As you have the source from the original artical, you should be able to modify it so it renders the runat='server' attribute when it parses the htmlArea and renders it as a text area.
Or....post a question to the author like I said earlier.
