In the Main, if the current username isn't the username under which I want to run, I instantiate a System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo, set the appropriate values, and use it to start a new process.

Do you mean does it do it any physical harm? I suppose any write operation to a disk brings it closer to its eventual end of life, but not in any noticeable way.

I believe a full format will write once to every sector on the disk, whereas a 'quick format' will just wipe the file allocation table, so all the data remains on disk but cannot be identified by the OS.

Ummm...by the very nature of the term formatting the HDD[^]it is implied that something more than "just an ordinary write operation" occurs.

I just added 4 gigs of memory to a Windows 2003 Enterprise Server running on a Dell PowerEdge 2900 dual quadcore processor server. The new memory brought it up to 8 total gigs of memory.
For some reason I'm now getting "low virtual memory" errors which couldn't be farther from the truth. Does anyone have any ideas why?

Adding more memory requires more descriptors (Page Frame Number database, if memory serves) to describe what's in that memory. The PFN database has to come from non-paged pool, again from memory. It could be that it's one of these other pools of memory that's low.
If this box is running Exchange Server, Microsoft recommend booting with the /3GB switch and the /USERVA switch to fine-tune the virtual address space, and not fitting more than 4GB of RAM. Exchange can't make use of the extra RAM anyway, and you end up wasting some kernel address space to describe the RAM you can't use.

We put in use MSExchage server in our office for e-mail communication between various offices of our Department which are connected thro' Leased lines and Dial-up. However users connected with "Dial-up" can not open the mail boxes whereas other users can open whenever the number of users reached some limit.
Pl suggest the remedy.

Hi all,
I surf the net on my desktop or my notebook (separately)via a gprs connection using my cell phone. currently i have connected my notebook to the net and am trying to connect my desktop as well, i.e i am trying for a parallel internet connection. I do not have a lan cable. i wanted to connect it using bluetooth.
I have turned on the bluetooth device. but it somehow does not detect the other device (i.e. notebook). There is some problem with the bluetooth PAN network setup. I am unable to look it up anywhere.
Any help would be appreciable. Thanks in advance.

Not entirely. You can set the access rights on the key using REGEDT32, but you will still leave the Administrators group as being able to make changes to the key.

There are alot of things that have to do with that in CMD, you might be thinking of net use[^] which maps network paths to drives, or maybe subst[^] which maps local directorys into new drives.
You can then create a bat/cmd file which executes upon each login, to map the users home drive to the right folder/server.
Dont forget about the variables in cmd, like %USERNAME%, they can all be listed with the command set

" subst" will juat map a folder like drive..
my request is that the user should have acccess only to that drive which is mapped....

Im not sure if i understand exactly what you want, but like you can hide the main %windir% drives by changing some things in the registry. Then use permissions to deny root access. And then use the subst command to map a folder (which they have permission to) in the hidden drive.
And that should be it. or hu?

Greetings,
Is there a way to disable Windows' termination confirmation when a service "unexpectedly" terminates? I have a firewall that, on rare occassions, "unexpectedly" terminates (its service component) and it can not restart without closing the Windows confirmation dialogbox. Most of the time it's not a problem since I'm "there" to close the confirmation box; it's the times that I leave my PC unattended for hours that its a problem. Without me to close the confirmation box, my firewall won't restart, leaving my PC vulnerable.

hehe... i wish it was that simple, but obviously it's not 
other software (including securty-related ones) run important components as service. since we all know that no software is perfect (duh!), we can expect them to bug-down. it is in this situation (and many other) where you dont want your services to wait for your confirmation just to have it automatically restarted.

I have very little faith in security software.
My antivirus only runs when I schedule a scan or manually start one, I don't have it scanning all the time as it drains far too much performance, I'm a big boy and can watch what I open. I also use a hardware firewall and turn off the software based one, if it's gotten on to my network then it's probably going to get onto my machine wether I have a firewall up or not.
That siad theres plenty of legitimate reason for wanting to have a service restarted automatically I just wanted to rant about security software :P
