Well, it depends. Do you want to be a capable programmer, or just a reuser of libraries ? If you just have a need to create something and walk away from it, use Microsoft's library. If you want to be able to optimise, to understand what is happening, and to have full control over the process, learn how to do it yourself.

You usually write server-side code in C# or VB.NET if you are using ASP.NET. You can write the code in other languages but these are the most integrated into ASP.NET. There are a lot of books and articles available to reference their syntax.

Hi,
Can any one suggest me a way to get my local database intimated whenever there is an insert/update occurring in my Remote server.

A little more detail please. What do you mean by "local database"? You have a central database which you want to replicate changes to satellite databases on your webserver?

Hi,
Thank you for replying. I want to give more details about my question.
In my question “local database” means my SQL Server database in my desktop machine. I know my remote server can no way communicate with my local machine
Condition:
Local DB must be updates soon after the remote server is updated. (Max. 5 mins. time)
What I am planning to do:
On Remote server:
Whenever there is an insert in the database after inserting I will be writing the same insert statement in a text file. If there is another insert I want to simply append it to the text file.
On My Windows Machine:
I want to develop a windows application that will be accessing the text file every 3-5 minutes, Updates the local database in my machine and process it locally.
Problem:
Expecting 5-8 inserts in database per day my solution may not be the best choice.
Plz let me know any other alternatives.
Regards,
Jagadeesh

Hi all..
I am using MS access database to store the values enterd in text boxes of a ASP.Net page. Since i am using retreiving date of birth too i have speciefied the format as Datetime (shortdate) in Access.
What my problem is whatever time I enter in the text box it is getting stored as 12/30/1899. I really dont have the idea why this is happening. Somebody please help me on this.
Here is the code segment used to store the text box values in MS Access database.
Protected Sub txtsubmit_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles txtsubmit.Click
Try
Dim sconnection As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=D:\154466\DW\DW.mdb;User ID=Admin; Password="
Dim sqlstatement as string
sqlstatement = "INSERT INTO dwbi values( " & txtid.Text & ",' " & txtname.Text & " ', " & txtdob.Text & " ," & txtvnet.Text & "," & txtextn.Text & "," & txtmoblie.Text & ",'" & txtpskill.Text & "','" & txtsskill.Text & "','" & txtinterest.Text & "','" & txtproject.Text & "')"
Dim dbcon As New OleDbConnection(sconnection)
Dim oCmd As New OleDbCommand(sqlstatement, dbcon)
dbcon.Open()
oCmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
dbcon.Close()
lblmesg.Text = "Details Updated Successfully!!"
Thanks in advance..

Hi!
sqlstatement = "INSERT INTO dwbi values( " & txtid.Text & ",' " & txtname.Text & " ', " & txtdob.Text & " ," & txtvnet.Text & "," & txtextn.Text & "," & txtmoblie.Text & ",'" & txtpskill.Text & "','" & txtsskill.Text & "','" & txtinterest.Text & "','" & txtproject.Text & "')"
should be like
sqlstatement = "INSERT INTO dwbi values( " & txtid.Text & ",' " & txtname.Text & " ','" & txtdob.Text & "'," & txtvnet.Text & "," & txtextn.Text & "," & txtmoblie.Text & ",'" & txtpskill.Text & "','" & txtsskill.Text & "','" & txtinterest.Text & "','" & txtproject.Text & "')"
note the ' character for txtdob.text
Hope this helps.

Hi,
I was trying to open an aspx form in VS 2005, which I created in VS 2003. But its throwing exception:
"System.Web.HttpException: Cannot use a leading .. to exit above the top directory."
But when I remove the line in aspx where I link the CSS to the page, the error vanishes. The CSS link is:
<LINK href="<%=strVersionPath%>" type=text/css rel=Stylesheet>
Could anyone tell me what going wrong here?
Regards,
Blumen

May be this is due to different directory strucutres for 2003 and 2005. You can try checking value of strVersionPath
|
|
|
|
|
The value for that string seems fine, but when we run that page, its throwing this error. I have googled for this error, but results are confusing.
Is this the way to link a CSS in ASP.NET 2.0, or is there an alternate way to link CSS to the page in 2.0?
Regards,
Blumen

I don't see why not. VS2005 has it's own web server build in.

If I have the /3GB boot switch enabled, the ASP.NET worker process (Aspnet_wp.exe) does not start. If I request an ASP.NET page, i receive one of the following error messages in the browser:
HTTP 500 - Internal server error
My question is where i can locate the /3GB boot switch?
