You have to provide a little more information about what the program actually does. What "speed" is it that it's changing, and how does it do that?

Heck no. I wouldn't just download the .exe

If you think that I download and run just any executable that someone links to, you are badly misinformed.
I tried to check out the web site, but I just got redirected to some japanese (?) site.
nedracix wrote: this program changes the system speed.
No, it does't. The system doesn't have a single propery that controls the speed. The speed of the system depends on a lot of different factors, most of which doesn't have a controllable "speed" property either. The program is not changing the "system speed", it's doing something else to affect the performance of the system.

Hi,
some processors, mostly those intended for battery based systems, have a way
to reduce power consumption, basically by turning down the core frequency.
These "technologies" get fancy names, such as EIST (Enhanced Intel Speed Step
Technology). They typically let the processor run at maximum speed when on AC power,
and without AC power let them run at same or some reduced speed depending on
current work load.
It is my guess some BIOS settings may influence the behavior, and some utility
might do the same. In my experience, running a background process that consumes
all remaining CPU cycles, also helps in putting the system back to maximum speed
immediately (wich would happen if the foreground app were needing the cycles too).

If that program runs with a command line, you can make it run programmatically
using Process.Start() and that would be it.
If it needs GUI interaction, you can start it with Process.Start, then try to
figure out how you send it mouse and/or keyboard commands, then close it again.
That's a lot of trouble that will keep you busy; start searching CodeProject
and learn the do's and don'ts of Windows messages.
No one knowledgable would even consider running an unknown EXE, so you will be
very much on your own in this.

There are NO settings that change the system speed in Windows. There's nothing in the Win32 API that supports this. This app is using some other technique or something specific in the motherboards chipset (the are NO STANDARDS for this!!) to alter the system speed. Without knowing EXACTLY what that app is doing (i.e.: you need the source code for it!), there is nothing anyone can tell you on how to do this.

Hello, Im not very knowledgeable to VB, but I am stuck. Im trying to add syntax highlighting to my RichTextbox. This is what I have so far:
Function doSyntax()<br />
Dim input = RichTextBox1.Text.ToString<br />
Dim thenew As String() = Split(input, vbCrLf)<br />
Dim keywords As String() = {"Dim", "As", "Integer"}<br />
For Each Item As String In thenew<br />
For Each keys As String In keywords<br />
If Item = keys Then<br />
RichTextBox1.SelectionStart = RichTextBox1.Find(Item)<br />
RichTextBox1.SelectionLength = Item.Length<br />
RichTextBox1.SelectionColor = Color.Blue<br />
RichTextBox1.SelectionStart = RichTextBox1.Text.IndexOf(Item) + Item.Length + 1<br />
RichTextBox1.SelectionLength = 0<br />
RichTextBox1.SelectionColor = Color.Black<br />
End If<br />
Next<br />
Next<br />
End Function
It only colors the first word though. Do I need a while loop or something? I call this function on the text change event of the textbox. Any help is appreciated.

The subject of source code parsing is quite a detailed one. It can, depending on the university, take a number of semesters to teach. Most Computer Science degree courses will give you a broad overview in one semester.
You have a number of issues with your code. A Syntax Highlighter is essentially a code interpreter of sorts. That means it has to understand what the code does.
For example, blindly highlighting the word "As" may produce incorrect results as the following code shows:
Dim mySentence As String = "As you know a good parser can interpret the string correctly"
Dave@VB wrote: It only colors the first word though. Do I need a while loop or something?
I hope you can see that you require a bit more than a while loop. You appear to have taken on a project beyond your current understanding and I would strongly suggest that you learn more before attempting to solve this problem.

if you want to make a syntax highlighter, the way that will make it all very clear is to learn Regex, you can then specify a pattern that determins when & where to highlight & to ignore words when they don't want highlighting.

How to add a new item in the listview at a specific position?
I have 5 rows in listview and want to add a new row at position 2.
Thanks in advance.

Try:
listview1.Items.Insert(1, YourListViewItem)
(The index is 0-based)
Good luck,

I'm creating a VB.net application ( vb.net 2005) .The application use a Ms access 2003 database with 5 fields ( Primary key is autonumber).I have create dataset using wizard.
I have problems when insert a new record in databse. The code is :
--------------
Dim drw1 As XTDataSet.PassRow
drw1 = Me.XTDataSet.Pass.NewPassRow
drw1("name") = "xxxxx"
drw1("ALG_1") = "ccccc"
drw1("aksnot") = True
drw1("aksfin") = False
Me.XTDataSet.Pass.AddPassRow(drw1)
Me.PassTableAdapter.Update(XTDataset.Pass)
Me.XtDataset.Pass.AcceptChanges()
-------------------------
With these code the new record is added to database , but after if i try to modify the new record ( without closing the form ) i get an error : Concurrency Violation....
If i close the form end reopen i can modify the new record without problems.
And without closing the form , if i fill again the dataset after adding new record everything is ok.
But how to do without closing the form and without filling again the dataset ( this is to slow)
Please help me !

Hi All
I want to print a wages slip for an employees through one of my project developed in VB6. The printing will happens using DMP i am using the following code: -
Dim Fn As String
Fn = FreeFile
Open Printer.Port For Output As #Fn
Print #Fn, "Some Text"; Tab(35); "Some Text"
Print #Fn, "Some Text"; Tab(35); "Some Text"
Print #Fn, "Some Text"; Tab(35); "Some Text"
Close (Fn)
This code print the slip but i want to reduce the text size, and want to change the font and paper size.
I use the printer.fontsize but its not working
Plz help me how could i do the same.
Thanks in advance

You're going to have to dig out the manual on the printer and find out what the codes are to tell the printer to change the font and styles. I think you'll find you are quite limited in what you can do.
Using the fontsize and other properties of the Printer object won't do you any good in this case. You're sending data directly to the printer port, not to the Spooler and you're not using any GDI objects to draw your printed image.

hi..
i selected some rows in a datatable using dataview..like
dim dv as dataview(dttemp) ' dttemp is datatable with 5 columns
dv.rowfilter="name like '" &txt1.text &"%'"
dv.sort="name"
here i got more than 1 rows as result.. my pblm is i just want the first name in the first row of the dataview ie. in dv. how can i..
cheers..

Well, it's doing wxactly what you're telling it to do. List ALL the rows that have a Name like "something%". You can look at the first row by getting index 0 of the Items collection.
Dim dv As New DataView(dttemp)
dv.RowFilter = "name LIKE 'text%'"
dv.sort = "name"
' Retrieve the first item in the sorted, filtered list:
Dim drv As DataRowView = dv.Item(0)
' Use the retrieved DataRowView as normal...

Hi there..
I want my application to check whether an input in a textbox is invalid when cmdAddDB is clicked.
It should check if there is a string for DByear value.
****************************************
DByear is declared as private integer
Sub CmdAddDBClick(sender As Object, e As System.EventArgs)
'check whether the textboxes are empty
If txtYear.text = "" OrElse txtMonth.text = "" OrElse txtDay.text = "" Then
'inform user of error
Messagebox.Show("Missing Information")
'clears all textboxes
txtYear.Text = ""
txtMonth.Text = ""
txtDay.Text = ""
Else
'set the textboxes to private variables & convert textboxes to
'integer values
DByear = CInt(txtYear.Text)
DBmonth = CInt(txtMonth.Text)
DBday = CInt(txtDay.Text)
End If
End Sub

Please can anyone help?
Thanx

Have you read the documentation for it? Have you even attempted to look up the documentation?
