If you cannot use any of the methods by which this is possible (cookies are best, ip address will work for the small number of people with a fixed IP ), then your only real option is prayer or magic.

At least an XmlHttp with the logged on account username.
If login is also not allowed, then I would recommend that you can pass the following solution to your solution seeker:
<script><br />
self.close();<br />
</script>

It should have been deleted by the message. AFAIK, otherwise a 'Spam comment' would be left by the CP Automatic Janitor.

First off, if at all possible I would strongly recoommend that you switch to ASP.NET - the framework is free, and if you don't want to use Notepad and can't afford Visual Studio, there are good, free tools like Web Matrix[^] available.
However, if you must... I pity you - you have some pretty gruesome coding ahead of you. Do a google search for "asp linked lists" - this is the first page that I came up with, and it has just what you're looking for:

i am using asp.net right now as you suggested but as i am new to this i am facing some problems like i don't know how to how to add navigational menu control and header on each page,so that user can navigate throughout website from any page should i use frames for this like in html or is there any other solution in asp.net .
another problem is i am not able to update my database through datagrid.
Is there any example for this? I am using visual basic asp.net and oracle database.
Thanks,

It sonuds like to you need to either buy a book or do some serious online research... I would suiggest 4guysfromrolla[^], which has loads of very good tutorials and examples, and also the DataGrid Girl[^] who, despite the the rather ghastly pink does have some useful examples and links.
prachishah wrote: should i use frames for this like in html
There are lots of reasons for avoiding frames anyway, but you can if you want. The only difference between ASP.NET and "plain" HTML is the server-side code - ASP.NET still uses HTML, and generate an HTML page in the end - that is, after all, what browsers require.
If you are using .NET 2.0 or above you can research Master Pages for your navigation issue; otherwise, or in any case, you just have to build a solution same as you would for any other website.
Good luck....

i am loading values of submenuitem from database at run time. now i want to store that selected submenuitem value for transferring to next page.can you suggest me how can i capture the value of selected submenuitem.
i am developing my website in visual studio2005
|
|
|
|

I assume then that each submenuitem has a database ID number too, so you could just append that to the URL of each item when binding it....
eg, menuitems could link to:
page1.aspx?id=123
page2.aspx?id=34
etc
You can then read this value on the next page through a simple Request("id") call. If you really want to pass the actual menuitem text you could pass that instead, but you ought to Server.URLEncode it first...
How you set about this depends on how you are doing things - if using the Menu control in VS2005 your best bet is the MenuItemDataBound Event[^]

i have tried this also.i was appending the submenuitem.text with the url.
on run time,some time when i click on sub menuitem ,an alert box appear
indicating "this website cannot be opened.operation aborted."i am using master/content page.
last time for this purpose,i have used context object to transfer data
context("papername")=menu1.selectedvalue on menuitem.click and used server.transfer
but this time i have to click on the submenuitem for this there is no event.
can you suggest me how can i store the value of selected submenuitem in context object.

On IIS 6 (Windows Server 2003), ASP needs to be enabled in the Web Service Extensions. This should be the same on IIS 7 also right?

The simple answer. You can not.
<big>The recommended answer. You should not.</big>
Workaround (anyway): <script>history.forward()</script>

hi,
i need to implement ffmpeg in c#.net 2.0 application . can somebody pls. guide me exactly what files do i need to include in my project and do i need MinGW and MSys for this.
What is MinGW and MSys? Do i need them inorder to implement ffmpeg in c#.net 2.0 application?
When i simply run ffmpeg through command line, then ffmpeg works fine. I'm running it on windows.
Thanks,
Harry.

I have a dropdown list or say htm tag.
I have written onchange event.
Its works fine in IE by accessing with mouse or keyboard.
The issue is in Firefox. In that it works fine if you select an item through mouse but if you select an item from keyboard or you change an item from keyboard the event does no fired.
Here is a sample code.

Interstingly enough if you hit ENTER after then it DOES fire the event - you could get away with adding an onkeup attribute too, calling the same function
select onchange="javascript:alert('changed');" onkeyup="javascript:alert('changed');"
though whether that's the best solution or not I wouldn't like to guess...

The event doesn't fire while you are changing the value, but when you are done and move to the next field. This is the same way that the onchange event works on a text field.

But including it is just superflous. It does not harm or create negative effects either.
