hi all ,
i'm trying to use the dotmsn component in order to be able to connect to MSN server and get the msn contacts.
the component seems to run in separate thread from asp.net page thread.
so i have a form with 2 textboxes "one for the email and the other one for the password" and a button.
pressing the button causes the form to post back and click handler to excute ..
when i call the connect method of the messenger class in DotMSN component another thread start for connecting to MSN server.
but the asp.net page or thread does not wait for the events of this messenger class -" events like connection_established, connection_error"-
the page is rendered with no actions taken ... without waiting for the other thread to finish excution.
i need a way for asp.net page to wait for this thread of the component to finish excution either by firing the connection established event or any other error event ...

On my website i used to run the html pages this time i created asp page and uploaded on the site. The asp page tells the browser to download the file, instead of showing it. If i run the same asp page on the my local IIS, it runs correctly.
Can anyone tell me What could be the problem area?

The site is not configured to serve ASP, obviously.
Do you mean ASP, or ASP.NET ? They are two different things. Ths is the ASP.NET forum. If it's ASP.NET, then the .NET framework needs to be installed on the server.

This is for classic ASP page only. Could you please guide me about what kind of configuration needed on the server to serve ASP page. I mean where this value to be set on the server so that from my account i can execute ASP page.

with that mail,i like to see the sender send from which ipaddress and the address of that system place...,

No. Your mail comes to you from a mail server, which the user connects to. I doubt very much that the mail protocol passes on the IP address, I've never seen a mail program show it.

You mean pass data from one grid to another ? On the client side ? On the client side, it's all just tables and divs, you can do whatever you like if you write javascrpt to do it. The real queston is, what exactly do you hope to achieve, in particular, is it for presentation only, or do you want the back end involved in some way ?

Oh, a master child view ? Yes, that's easy. You would probably postback to create the child view, then it becomes easy. The selected item provides the data to populate the child grid on postback.

Hi,
i am developing a web application in vs 2005. the problem that is face is that every time i start up my VS, my startup project gets changed to another project(namely my DAL).
though i get around it by selecting my web folder as the start up project, but would like to ask you all, if there is an alternative to it.

Hello to all.
I have one textbox which has a facility of autocomplete and the autocomplete criteria comes from the database.
example:
if i enter "a" in textbox the words starting from "a" appear in the listbox below the textbox.Now i have done coding in such a way that if i press enter in the listbox then the word in the listbox is filled in the textbox and the listbox disappears.
sql tables used:
Table1:
AID int, AName varchar(50)
Table2:
Aid int, ADescription varchar(200)
The text displayed in the listbox is AName. I want to display the no. of records of ADescription having Aid that has Aname from Table1.
I want to display that records as soon as the value in the listbox is selected.In which event should i write the code.
Please help me.

You need write the code on post back of control mean set the auto postback true property of textbox.
Each post back of text box get the record from the database via Like clause of select statement.
Or you can use Ajax for implement it.

Thanks. But i have used the textbox of html(input type="text") and i am using javascript function.Through javascript function i am passing value of textbox to the other aspx page and from there through querystring that value is fetched and then select query is fired.
What should i do?

Hi Everyone,
I am using a web part in a page for the first time.To try how it works i did in a sample page where i first added a webpart manager and a webzone with a label control with some text.
When i try to run i get a run time error saying
"When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)"
I dont have sql server in my local machine but should it be needed.I am not trying to connect to database. Then why i couldnt run.

You have obviously written code that expects to find SQL Server somewhere. Perhaps that's what webparts are persisted to, by default ?

Hi,
I am using gridview which has autogenerate column. Also I want to use template column in the gridview which contain dropdownlist. by default it is taking the template columns before the autogenerate columns. I want to disply it after the autogenerate columns.How can i do this????

Hi Ballita,
Do One Thing as u r functional requirement.
once ur template column created, then
go to the presentation logic and change the portion of the template colunn to the last place of the grid view control.
like

I created a javascript file and called the function in the page_load event with btn.Attributes.Add("onclick", "return validate"); after adding this line my validators are not working. And the control is not entring the .js file at all. what is the reason?

Try calling this way:
btn.Attributes.Add("onclick", "javascript:return validate();");
if not working then post the aspx and js file code.
