Control in what way ? Sessions do time out, why would you want them not to ?

I need to alert the user that the session will time out?

You can have a JavaScript function to keep ticking and in the case of timer getting elapsed, you can alert the user.

You could try to do that, but it's not going to work 100% of the time, because it will be disconnected from the session itself. I mean, if your session exists, and you run a timer on the client, if the page loads in 5 seconds, your timer is 5 seconds behind.
Why is this a problem ? What's the nature of the app that you expect people to leave it for long periods and expect it to work ? What if your page just reloads itself after a certain period ?

Recently I have read the same thing in one CP article. Have you searched for that here. If I remember correctly, it was done using an IFRAME and setting the refresh header to a value less than session timeout value. This IFRAME page will refresh before session is going to timeout, and you can easily notify the user regarding the session timeout, or you can stop the session from timing out by increasing the timeout value.

I am working on a data entry web application that users can use in different countries and some times where they are using the application they may be distracted for an hour, half an hour or may be more... So, i need to make sure when they return to enter the data they collected that the session is still alive through a msg for example or may be refreshing after x minutes. BY the way what did u mean by CP article? Could u plz give em the link to those articles?
Thanks in advance

can i put the serial no in the gridview , i mean if it containes 10 records , then the first column should be of serial number starting from 1 to 10.and one more thing if i delete the record in between these records the there should not exist random serial order, example if i delete one record out of 10 then the counting should be from 1 - 9.Hope i have made u understand . i don;t want the database interaction to do this job.

hi sonia,
i think you can do this in 2 ways .
1st : you can use dataset object and inside that you can datatable object then get the reference of that particular datatable and programmatically add column in to that datatable and set that column's propert autoicnrement to true.
2nd : you can use a Itemdatabound event of your data grid.
steps for this is
1. take page level int type varibale name it as u like.
2.on page load store this variable in viewstate with value 0;
3.now as datagrid's itemdatabound get called for each row you can increment that variable and store it in the the datagrid column.
|
|
|
|
|
Take one Label Control In ItemTemplate.
Now In code behind side,
Find label control OnRowDatabound Event and bind it with rowIndex of gridview
i.e
((Label)e.Row.FindControl("lblId")).Text=e.Row.RowIndex.ToString();

Create a template column and do something like
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="SlNo">
<ItemTemplate>
<%# Container.DataItemIndex + 1 %>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
Hope this helps

Hi
I am using Visual Studio 2005 to develope a Web Application. I created a Web User Control with a repeater and a button. On the user control the button is under the repeater. When I drag the user control onto a web form the button suddenly appears above the repeater on the web form. Also when I run the application the button is above the repeater.
Has anyone seen this behaviour before?
Thanks.

Sounds like the button is above the repeater to me, either physically, or as a result of some CSS you have going on.

NO. Make sure you are using valid HTML. VS2005 editor will add inline styles to the controls when you drag and drop them. This might be causing the problem. Switch to HTML view and check any unwanted styles are present

Dataset can't contain rows. Do you mean a DataTable ?
Sonia Gupta wrote: gridview1.datasource = null;
Are you doing Databind() after this line ?
|
|
|
|

no not binding the gridview if table contains 0 row

There is no need of checking the row. You can directly bind the datatable to the gridview. If datatable contains rows, it will be shown in GridView. If not it will be blank. So you have to do a DataBind() also in your code. Remove the assigning null
