unfortunately, I have to use it at work.
...and it's not the latest version either. I can't begin to express how much I hate/loathe Lotus notes.

Sad to say, I do. It's only advantage is it's easy to make fun of.

I used to use outlook, both express and 2003, but after a while I noticed it tries me crazy, everyday early in the morning.
When database grows up (and it does extremely fast) I several times encountered deadlocks or unacceptable latencies, ending up with the worst solution: 'End Process Tree'.
The main reason I was using an email client was that I had dial up and I was disconnected most of the day but still needed to refer back to an email several times a day.
As soon as I was able to get ADSL, and web services improved, a web based email fulfills my needs and it sometimes offer even more(like chats, better search, etc.)
Now I'm quiet happy every day.

And that's GMail right?

Yes and no. I still need to use Yahoo mail, because it's older and most of my contacts are there.
I like GMail more because of features like GMail Notifier, it's speed, good search, filtering and also some interesting small things like it uploads attachments while I'm composing a letter, and when I'm done editing, I press Send and I see that the attachment has already been uploaded. That's a really fantastic idea that saves my time.
I use GMail more, however new Yahoo interface seems to be cool as well.
