i have a dll which helps me to export data from grid to an excel sheet.
//these are the codes...
Response.Charset = "ks_c_5601-1987"; //(to korean character-set)
LgaGrdToXlsLib.ExportData.Export objExportM = new LgaGrdToXlsLib.ExportData.Export("Web");
objExportM.ExportDetails(dtTaskMember,iColumnsM, Export.ExportFormat.Excel, "("+DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyyMMddHHmmss")+").xls");
/////////
and it works fine, but the problem is that i save this file on my computer and open this file, i confirm what i have downloaded and then i modify some data , then i save it as different name and that is the problem.
when i save this file as a different name, on the botton of the dialogwindow, this file type should be automatically selected as "Microsoft office document excel (*.xls)", but it keeps showing "text (*.txt)" type...
what is wrong with this!!! does any body know why???

This is driving me crazy. I used to do this in .net 1.1
The table will have rows in GetTable, but the client will have an empty table.
I used to return a ref to the table in GetTable...I shouldn't have to clone.
I've tried no clone, and cloning at the client call.
I've tried creating a new table at the client.
I've tried moving the function to the calling sub's class.
I've tried standing on my head.
I've tried rolling chicken bones and calling the spirits of my ancestors.
Please help if you can.
Thank you
Class DataHandler
Public Function GetTable(ByVal Query As String) As DataTable
Dim oCon As New SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("DispatchData").ConnectionString)
Dim oAdapter As New SqlDataAdapter(Query, oCon)
Dim oTable As DataTable
Try
Dim oDataset As New DataSet
oCon.Open()
oAdapter.Fill(oDataset)
oTable = oDataset.Tables(0)
'Table has x number of rows
Return oTable.Clone
Catch ex As Exception
Throw New Exception("Failed to read data", ex)
Return Nothing
Finally
oAdapter.Dispose()
oCon.Close()
End Try
End Function
End Class
Private SomeSub()
Dim oDataHndlr as new DataHandler
Dim MyQuery as string = "SELECT * FROM MyTable"
'Table will contain 0 rows
Dim oTable as DataTable = oDataHndlr.GetTable(MyQuery)
End Sub

Ok, I have solved the problem, but I don't know why it's so.
The Return keyword has to be outside of the try block.
Can anyone explain why?
Thanks.

Okay im using a .css file and it's working in IE but not Firefox, I noticed the textsizes i was setting are getting set to the appropriate sizes, in IE but not in Firefox, although if I comment out the .css file it affects both.
Just wondering if anyone has run into this bofore, or any tips in regards to using .css file with Firefox as opposed to IE

EVeyone has run into this. You need to change your CSS to something that works for both. And test for any other browser you want it to work with.

Differences between IE and other browsers are quite common. If you are building your pages for IE, there is a great risk that they are depending on rendering bugs in IE, and won't look the same in any other browser.
Firefox is a bit stricter with the correctness of the code. IE sometimes accepts code that is incorrect, by guessing what you might have meant.
Example:
Incorrect code, but accepted by IE:
font-size: 12;<br />
color: bad;
Correct code:
font-size: 12pt;<br />
color: #bad;
Open up the Error Console in Firefox and open your site, and it will tell you about all the incorrect css code.

Type in runtime... How? When user types you want control whick key presses?
Visit my blog at http://dotnetforeveryone.blogspot.com/

Well, When user wants to include one more item with the existing items from combo box and save a record in database, it should be enabled in web also. this is the reason why I seek for the possiblity to type in combo box during run time.
I think, it should be possible...!!

hi
i developed a website using asp.net c# and sqlexpress (2005). It works fine on my machine but when publish it to host i always take this error message:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
My database files are in App_Data directory. I am accessing them from there. the host doesnt allow remote connections. I think the connection string can cause this problem but i dont know how to solve it. Here is my connection string:
<connectionStrings>
<add name="sqlBaglantiStr" connectionString="server=.\SQLExpress;AttachDbFileName=|DataDirectory|ahsapeviniz.mdf;Integrated Security=true;User Instance=true"/>
</connectionStrings>
And for databases, i use windows authentication. Can it be about it? i dont know how can i create user for a database in App_Data folder.
thanks.

Is SQLExpress installed on your host?
only two letters away from being an asset
|
|
|
|
|
Yes it is installed, they told me "use SQLExpress" before
|
|
|
|
|
check whelter you sql server allows remote connection or not...
please check in sql server configuration manager and put enable tcp/ip also.

It will not help, if i will change my sql server settings. Because the problem is when publishing website on my host. And my host does not allow remote connections with sql server.
I am asking what my connection string should be to not make a remote connection.

ok may be you windows firewall is ON.If so, please OFF your firewall and then check.

How can i close firewall on host?
|
|
|
|
|
i mean you have to close the firewall of the computer where your sql server resides.If your sql server is in the host computer, then you have to request them to close....or change some configuration in the firewall so that firewall recognizes your sql server.

Hi,
I am new to ASP .Net.
I was going through the Page LifeCycle in ASP .Net 2.0 and what I found was a lot of events like
TestDeviceFilter()
AddParsedSubObject()
OnInitComplete()
OnPreRender()
OnRenderComplete() etc. that can be overridden.
What I want to know is where would one override these events, I mean in what scenarios.
Any help would be appreciated.
Aakar.

I need to convert the row entries to column in dataset.
Eg:
emplid assigned to
xxx work1
xxx work2
yyy work2
my dataset shud be changed to
emplid work1 work2
xxx checkboxchkd checkboxchkd
yyy notchecked checkboxchkd
to bind to grid.
There are two different ways am considering. One is the stored proc on sql and the other is C# class. Which would be better in performance?
Thanks for help.
Thanks

If you are using sql server 2005 then you can use the pivot command. If not, I would use ado.net. Create a dataTable with the proper columns and use a data reader to populate it. I don't think the C# is more efficient, but it sure is easier. Writing complicated stuff is SQL tough to debug and generally more difficult to follow.
How many rows are you going to be pulling back? If you have 1000s of rows you are probably better off using a user defined function in SQL for performance, but if you have 50 or less rows, it won't matter how you do it and the C# will be much easier to maintain / modify / debug if you need to.
I didn't get any requirements for the signature
