Hi All!
How set Security on a NTFS Folder Programmatically (Admin, SYSTEM - all, USER - read only)

Try searching MSDN for "NTFS ACL". There's also a sample called SIDCLEAN.C that should put you on the right track.

Hi,
I have to find some info like embedded and background pic's paths in HTML files.
The one way is to read the HTML page from file into a CString and use lots of CString::Find's and if's.
Is there any other way?
Thanks for your feedback

I have an Wizard unmanaged VC++ app that I am using VS.NET to debug. I run the app and all my intented code is preform the wizard is shown, it works, and closes. But I was looking in the output window for something else and I saw the first-change exception text. I couldn't track for the code I add to the app that could cause the exception so should I treat it as a warning or continue to find the problem.

About 12 ours ago I posted a question on MFC dialogs. Someone answered me but I had no time to read the message. Not I cannot find it any more? Search does not find my name, etc.

IF you want to find a string in a file, you can just load the file in a variable with ReadFile and find a substring inside it with strstr.

This is probably really simple but I cant think how to do it.
I have a dialog which contains a CRichEditCtrl derived member. In the Onkeydown of the edit control I check for F9 which works fine. I want to at this stage update a member of the edit control to contain the value, and inform the parent to ask.
this is really difficult because the child doesnt contain a reference to its parent??? Also what is the damn menthod I call from within the rich edit control to find out the current text?!!!
An example in case i havent explained well:
CMyRichEd::OnKeyDown( char bla bla )
{
if( nchar == vk_f9 ) {
m_PersonsName = // Get contents of text box
// Alert parent somehow to call CMyRichEd::GetPersonsName()
}
}
Any help would be v much appreciated!
Thanks

GetParent should return the parent window. Doesn't this work for you?

uh stupid question i know but i need to create a new directory from code and i found MkDir() in io.h but that doesn't seem to work with Visual Studio. I have an MFC app so i need either the MFC or the Win32 way to create a new directory...
Thanks in advance.

mkdir works fine, if your app uses MFC or not. i use it all the time.

Hi,
I'm considering upgrading to VC.NET (Standard Edition) from my well used and understood VC++ 6.
From what I have gathered so far though as far as C++ goes there is not a lot of difference between these two versions apart from the use of the MSIL. Am I wrong?
Does anyone know of any reason I should not upgrade?
Are there any compatability issues, will I be able to port my old code accross?
Thanks
Asim Hussain.

There are a few compatability issues that may cause you a few headaches.
The user interface is poor and not suited to MFC development at all. It is a major shift from the old ClassWizard of VC6.
For my C++ code I'm sticking with VC6, it's not worth the upgrade for all the productivity headaches.

as the above post says, the IDE is totally different from VC6. it's more like VB7. i hate it, frankly.
there are some incompatibility issues between MFC versions, too.
i'm staying with VC6

Oh man VC.net SUCKS so much comparing to VC6, well, at least I for one would say that. The IDE is poor designed, class wizard is gone, you will have such a hard and burdensome time to remove tied mamber variables or message handlers from your project, and one more funny thing is that, the "const" keyword for class member functions is no longer available, what a bloody joke.
Of course you can fix those by typing all codes into *.h and *.cpp manually, but why should you?
If you wanna do C#, ASP.net and VB.net, you need to upgrade to .net, if all you do is C++, not only it's a waste of money, but you will absolutely regret.

i should print pdf's in the background (without actually showing them).. my problem is that the only way i could achieve to do this is through the acrobat reader activeX control.. but this works for me just on a dialog box.. and loading fails if i want to hide the activeX control..
does anybody of you know a solution for my problem ?
my com - knowledge is totally small.. so i don't know if this is possible.. using the methods of an activeX control without showing it..
thanks in advance,
bernhard
