hey guys, i wonder if anyone has an easy solution for this one
i have to configure a computer to use separate internet connections per application, under Windows XP
i can only do that much using the ROUTE command, and honestly that worked for me, up until certain IPs started to change and well all hell broke loose.
so does anyone know of a program (or anything appropriate) that can force a program to use a specific interface/default gateway ?
for instance: make Firefox use a wifi and IE use lan, or specify the accounting software here to go through the VPN and all other traffic through normal default gateway.
windows firewall can restrict per application, put it doesn't do what's needed.
suggestions?
thanks in advance!

Hi everyone,
I was just wondering what people in this forum preferred, Windows XP or Linux, i personally use Windows XP as I have been using Windows the majority of my life. However i have used Linux, some time ago when I installed it on my Laptop, i found it Ok considering it was a free source piece of software. Although Windows does offer functions that are not present on Linux such as disc defragmentation and disc clean up, such utility software is vital to some.
So,
What do you prefer, Windows or Linux?
Thanks

as a windows developer, i use visual studio and thus my environment is windows xp.
since i work at home and at work, i'm still forced to use windows xp.
(not that it's bad)
but i always have a dual boot into some fresh linux distro (openSUSE 10.3 and waiting to try ubuntu 7.10) on my laptop, cause i always like to play with those, but never get the chance to fully use them.
my downloading machine at home is with openSUSE 10.2 (gonna get updated ) and it also acts as a full time VPN server, web/ftp personal server and handles local routing/filtering.
uptime exceeds 1 year, and runs marvelously, also it plays the movies at home.
conclusion:
i know XP all too well, thus i work faster with it.
i work with XP and all my programs are designed for Windows.
other software i use (Adobe Suite, 3Ds MAX .. ) aren't available in linux.
since i'm also a gamer, linux ain't for gaming.
thus XP.

I am trying to register a multi dotted extension into windows explorer Shell context menu (Win XP). I have a custom Excel 2003 (.xml) file that I have given a multi dotted extension like "fileName.matrix.xml". The idea is that if a user does not have the custom editor (application), it will open with Excel, which it currently does. But if the user has installed the custom editor application and I have registered this .matrix.xml file extention, it will open with the custom application. I do not what to register the .xml to open with the custom editor only if it is a .matrix.xml
Here is the Regedit script I have so far, but does not work.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.matrix.xml]
@="SODA.Matrix Customizer"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SODA.Matrix Customizer]
@="SODA Matrix Customization File"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SODA.Matrix Customizer\DefaultIcon]
@="C:\\Program Files\\SODA\\SODA Matrix Customizer.exe,0"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SODA.Matrix Customizer\Shell]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SODA.Matrix Customizer\Shell\Open]
@="Open with SODA's Matrix Customization Tool"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SODA.Matrix Customizer\Shell\Open\Command]
@="C:\\Program Files\\SODA\\SODA Matrix Customizer.exe %1"

Yes.

The two are generally unrelated. Just being on a domain does not cause web requests to be logged, although your browser will typically keep a cache of all items retrieved (whether or not on a domain) and a domain administrator or anyone else granted administrative rights to the computer will be able to access that. If you want to avoid this you'll have to clear the cache before logging off.
However, your network administrator may have installed some logging software on a firewall device between your network and the Internet, or a proxy server that your web requests go through. In this case you wouldn't be able to avoid the requests.
Whatever network you're using, you should follow the acceptable use policies of that network, and particularly if you don't own the computer that you're using.

I like to schedule my (exe) application on the server daily basis. I used windows scheduler but I got problem that when my network password expired. I intend to write windows services. Is there any other solution? Thanks

Realy I do not understand your question,
because w2k3 scheduler allows input user && password,
But you can change program credentials inside a program,of course if you have sources =)

I was researching on this tool Acunetix Web Application Vulnerability Scanner (http://www.acunetix.com/[^]) for testing websites. I was just wondering if someone else has used this tool and has any comments regarding its licensing model featureset etc.
Also, if some could suggest a similar other tool, preferably as a freeware, it would be great.

We have a complex CPU-bound single-threaded 'console' application that takes 4 times longer to run on a dual processor Xeon box with Windows 2003 Server installed than when the same box has XP installed. (I've been swapping the operating systems on it). I am the only user on the machine, and this is the only application on it.
To make things more complicated, if I run the application in an XP Virtual PC on the same Windows 2003 Server, the application runs 4 times faster again!
I have heard that this could be because memory is allocated differently on servers, can anybody corroborate this? How can we change our application to improve run-times on Windows 2003 Server?
