Well... my forms authentication doesn't work! Frown | :(

I have the a can get to the protected page without logging in... wird... I think there is something in the Web.config file!

(I testing the same code that Jeff Prosise wrote in an article in MSDN Magazine, May 2002 Vol 17 No 5)

I've had a Brinkster website and it wasn't too bad.
They do advertise it as more of a demo/prototype/test environment than a production site.

Do they let you have access to stuff that I can currently only do by going to the IIS Admin Tool, i.e. set up error pages, etc.?

What server software is it? If it is IIS (Internet Information Services), it comes with NT, 2000, and XP Pro. All he has to do is install the .NET runtime and it should install it. I am not sure if PWS will support ASP.NET. If it is non MS software chances are it won't work.

MSDE and IIS

Is there any configuration to use MSDE and IIS? I can access the database through Web Matrix but I cannot get it to access through a page on IIS.

Shouldn't have anything to do with IIS. If the connection string is setup properly in your code you should be able to connect to the database.

This is my connection string

SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection("server=MATT\nsDB;database=NSUsers;Trusted_Connection=yes");
SqlCommand myCommand = new SqlCommand("select * from Test", myConnection);

myConnection.Open();

MATT is the computer name (I also tried the IP address in it's place)
nsDB is the named instance of the SQL server
and Test is the table name. When I try to open the connection I get

SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

It gives me this stack trace:

Try adding user id and password to the connection string. I believe the problem is the connection is trying to be made using the ASP.NET account and useless you've added it a DB user it can't connect.

I have written some ASP.NET code that uses some TextBoxes and Buttons but I can't see them when I open my .aspx file in IE!!!
It seem like I don't have ASP.NET support, right?

You need IIS with ASP.NET installed. If you don't have IIS, and using WebMatrix, it comes with a server that you should try out.

WebMatrix? If it comes with VS.NET I think I have it... but if not,.... I don't have it!
I installed everything except from everything that had with VB.NET to do! Smile | :)

WebMatrix is not included with VS.NET. For lack of a better analogy it is FrontPage for ASP.NET.

Did you install the ASP.NET components on your webserver?

I wish someone would post instructions. I tried out the ASP.NET Web Matrix thingy yesterday and was rewarded by HTTP 500 errors and a BSOD. No clues or decent error messages - just crash and burn. The runtime is installed, the .NET framework is there... nothing works. Grrrr...

I tried it too!
When I opened a HTML page and viewed the code and then watch it in Design mode my table was gone(?)... weird... so I will write the code in Notepad and test the pages with the server that comes with WedMatrix!
