If the post has replies, don't actualy remove the post, just replace the contents with a message. Like when a message gets marked as spam.
I hate when someone deletes a topic with replies. The replies get left floating around, and get mixed up in other topics. And then if someone replies to your loose reply, it usually doesn't end up underneath it, but somewhere else.
It does my head in 
My current favourite word is: Waffle

You aren't the only one. I usually put the original message in my post, so if the OP deletes it, and someone else comes along wondering what the question was, they've got it.

A post will sink out of sight as new posts are added. I suggest that if a top-level post is modified by its author, the whole thread should be moved to the top of the forum (this includes article forums). I realize this could also be accomplished by simply posting a new message, but what I suggest will preserve existing comments.

Not ironically at all, actually. John's concerns were about wading through hundreds of posts to find his thread. I think this can be solved by a combination of 1) getting an email notification when someone responds to your post; and 2) using a permalink to quickly jump to the thread you started.
What my suggestion addresses is the situation where an op adds details or clarifies a post. In that case, previous viewers of his post may have a better answer for him, and so it is appropriate to move the thread to the top.
Note that I am suggesting that the thread be moved to the top only when the top-level post has been modified, which is different (I think) from what others have suggested.

We've discussed this many times and the issue always comes back to: what do you do about those who continually add "well? Can someone answer me?" posts to their question thread in order to have it appear at the top.
What I would like to do instead is introduce a thread view similar to BBS style boards that can be sorted by thread start date or last thread update date.

This would certainly not be helpful. Just because some Satips posts a ![Rose | [Rose]](https://codeproject.freetls.fastly.net/script/Forums/Images/rose.gif) , I don't want to see it pop up to the top. If the OP modified the top-level post, it should go to the top.

But then this is no different from someone simply touching their initial post to bump it, 9am every morning.
Maybe a combination of: bump no more than once a day, bump no more than 3 times (or whatever)

Hi All,
I'm receiving and endless loop on trying to access articles. Anyone else experiencing it? Click a link. I get the 'Page Not Found, most likely message...'. Clicking that link takes me back to the 'Page Not found, most likely message'.
This has happened for the last 3 articles I tried to access. 10/25, 7:09AM EST. Below is one sample.

The last time this happened to me, I had accidentally clicked on "No" on my firewall's popup at some prior time, without realizing it.

One of our servers died and has just been replaced. It turns out it went live before all files on it were properly synced so you're seeing some 404s when you hit that server.
I'm synching now.

Hi,
I have an idea regarding message board. While posting a new message if we "Checked" the Reply via mail the mail is send to our mail id, but is there any that there will be an indication on our message poasted section that some one has replyed it.
Means,
I have posted a message .
Now it will come to my posted message section with a "new" image, now whenever any reply come to that corrosponding message, a "reply" icon will be add or may be it's color will change, that we can get an idea from message borad itself.
This is an idea only.
Please Give your opinion.

I suggest you to modify your topic title
to make it more exact,
for example, ~Indication of new replies to a topic~.

"New" means ~new unknown (unread) reply (replies) posted by other member(s)~.

It happened once, and i ignored it, and then it happened again. Only when i post a new topic though, not every message.
Anyway, when i post a topic, instead of going back to the first page of the forum, it opens up sometime around september 2000. Very odd.
My current favourite word is: Waffle
