Hi, Can anyone help me w/Hyperlink columns in VB.Net Standard 2003. I developed an ap that list a large quantity of equipment (scales) within a datagrid that is bound to an MS access database on a LAN connection. I want to set up a hyperlink column so that my end user can click on a record's .PDF File path/name to launch the Adobe User manual for the selected model and thus provide detailed equipment data to the end user for a specific piece of equipment (scale).
The MSDN help page states the following for Adding Hyperlink Columns to a DataGrid Web Server Control;
"You can open the DataGrid Properties dialog box by selecting the DataGrid control in your Web Forms page, opening the Properties window, and choosing Property Builder at the bottom of the window."
Perhaps this passage refers to a different version of VB because I can find no "Property Builder" at the bottom of the properties page or in any other place.
Can anyone out there provide any suggestions for me or perhaps guide me to a sample that I might be able to download and study?

I have a general question about how to work on subsets of datasets
I have a dataset that has data. I want to operate on only part of that dataset. So I create a dataview and filter the datatable into it. Then I create a datagridview from the dataview. Then I perform my operations on the datagridview.
This works, but I guess it seems kind of strange -- datagridviews seem to have an entirely different purpose. Does it make sense to do data analysis on a datagridview, or is there a better approach for me?
Thanks!

What kind of data analysis are you speaking of?

Hi. Thanks for your reply. Here's the postcard version, as expanded from the sticky.
This is not so much an issue of can I do it? but can I do it fast?
I have data on several thousand stocks which are downloaded every day. They are persisted on the disk in some format, each in its own file (several thousand files). Each file has a matrix of some string and some double and some integer values. The matrix is say 500 rows by 10 columns in each file, each row representing one date.
I need to, for each file
1. Open and read the matrix
2. Sort the matrix by date and select the dates I want
3. Calculate new values in new columns (say a moving average or a sum or difference)
4. Output the result
5. Close and move to the next file
My benchmark is c++ programs that seem to be able to do this really, really fast.
So what format should I store the files in?
Text? (small, but need to be read line by line)
Xml? (much bigger, but can be read into a dataset in one XMLread)
Serialized object array? (maybe, but how to filter the data by date?)
Data structure?
Other?
My strategy has been to
1. Store as XML datatable and read from that datatable
2. Create a dataviewer to sort and filter
3. Perform my calculations on the datagridview created from the dataview
This works, but I need to go faster. Would a data structure be appropriate? I could serialize an object array, but then how to filter it by date? SQL or ODBC didn’t seem like they would be useful.
Thanks again

Is there any reason why the stocks data is downloaded into a file rather than into a database table?

Yes, interesting idea (I'm assuming you mean combine all of the 2000 individual files into one single dataset)
One problem is that the resulting dataset is huge.
Here is the issue:
The textfiles are about 25K each times 2000 files = 50,000. Not a problem
Turn each of those textfiles into a datatable, each datatable is now 200KB!
200 * 2000 = 40M
OK that can be done, but seems really wasteful, and takes a long time to read it.
So really I'm looking for an alternative that doesn't require datatables at all. Until I get an alternative, I'm tempted to just say with the textfiles themselves.
BTW object arrays serialize to a size that's somewhat bigger than the original textfiles, but not much (about 37K each)

How can I put code on the close[x] button of the messagebox?
|
|
|
|
|
MessageBox.Show() returns a DialogResult value, which depends on how it got closed.
There is a value for each possible Button, and IIRC the Cancel value is also returned
when the Close Box is clicked (check it!).

You can't. However, you could always create a custom messagebox control.

Hi All,
I want to create a Wi-Fi Monitoring and Detection System using .Net 2.0.
1. It will detect any wireless computer coming in the range of access point….
2. It will then authenticate the detected ones by assigning them network parameters
3. It will then monitor the wireless computers by using SNMP protocol
Is there sdk present for that or any API available in .net. I have worked LAN Monitoring System, but i don't know how to monitor Wi- Fi devices.
Can anyone please help me out?
Thanx in advance.

Yeah, you are not going to find any articles about that anywhere on the web. If you do I would love to read it as well.

That ALMOST sounds illegal. May I ask what you are monitoring? Please don't lie and say something like your kid or for just for the sake of knowledge. It really sounds like your trying to steal sensitive material ie. credit card#, s.s., ect. But you may have a totaly valid explanation for wanting to know that kind of code and I would like to hear it.

Hi mykingdomforanewusername
I dont know why do you think I m trying to do any illegal thing or I m trying to steal any sensitive material. As i have mentioned earlier I m a Software Developer and I have designed a LAN Monitoring System and I now want to design a Wireless Network Monitoring System. I dont have any illegal things in my mind. I just dont know how to do it thats why I asked for help in this forum. I would appreciate any kind of help if u can.

In VB.NET for making statement a Comment you use '. If you are talking about to generate NDoc Documentation then you can install "VBCommenter" available at gotdotnet.com which is an add-in for Visual Studio .NET which can generate XML like comments but with ''' and can also generate NDoc file to generate MSDN like documentation.

How to link webservice (Server) to connect to PDA (Client)?
any source code? thanks
|
|
|
|
|
The concept is the same as using a webservice from a standard windows application, except that you will have to create a "Pocket PC" project to code the client.
What you have to do is to:
1. Create a Pocket PC Application Project.
2. Add a reference to the webservice you want to use.
3. Take advantage of the functions and routines available through that webservice.
A sample call for the client would be:
Imports Application1.WebService1
Public Class Form1
Private WebService1 As New WebService1.ClassName
Private Sub btnAdd_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnAdd.Click
Dim resultAdd As Double = WebService1.AddNumbers(txtNum1.Text, txtNum2.Text)
lblResult.Text = resultAdd
End Sub
End Class

I am in the process of writing a Button Bar control. The control inherits from the Windows.Forms.Panel but I only want to allow a Button to be added to control collection.
To achieve this I have written a ButtonCollection Class that inherits from Windows.Forms.Control.ControlCollection and shadowed the necessary method and properties to accept and return Buttons.
To the Button Bar class I have added a read only Property called Buttons that returns the ButtonCollection.
The problem I am currently having, is that when I now add a Button in design mode, using the Button property, I get the error message "'Child' is not a child of this parent"
This error is caused when the Paint event of the control fires :-
Private Sub ButtonBar_Paint(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.PaintEventArgs) Handles Me.Paint<br />
Me.Controls.Clear()<br />
For Each oButton As Infragistics.Win.Misc.UltraButton In Buttons.List<br />
Me.Controls.Add(oButton)<br />
Next<br />
End Sub
Any help here, greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Steve Jowett
