What exactly is a "user variable" and how is it different to any other kind of variable?
How does it hold on to the value when the program shuts down?

Does anyone out there have a VB.NET code sample that allows me to modify WMA tags (WMAID3Tag, e.g., Title, Artist, Genre, etc.) and save them back into the WMA file? I've found plenty of samples of code that reads these tags, but none that write changes back to the file.
Thanks,

Hi,
I am upgrading an ms access application into .net2005.
The problem now is that one of the report from the current access
application is exported into .snp file(snapshot),
which is currently not supported by .net only (xls and pdf)
Does anybody have an idea on how I can export my report in vb.net into
snapshot format? Your idea will be much appreciated. Many thanks.
My second option here is to create a macro in access that will be called by my vb application to export the report to snapshot format. I will create a temp table in access to receive the data to be converted.
The problem is I do not know how to do it.
Does anybody knows how?
Thanks in advance..
best regards,

Help!
Have searched the web to no avail for a solution to this issue. There seem to be a few people having the same problem, but none of the suggested solutions seem to work for me
Have been forwarded code and added it to an existing solution (3 projects), but the original(?) doesn't seem to update any changes (including commenting) made in the code. When debugging the IDE steps thru code i've commented. It was looking for the (non existant on my machine) file path to classes etc, but have deleted any references to them, and have no idea where to go from here.
Thanx in advance to anyone who has successfully resolved this and can help out.

If you're building a release version, the debug version won't update. If you've added a reference to the release version to your project, building the debug version will not update that dll for debugging.

You know if you used parameterised queries you wouldn't have to worry about converting date formats and you would improve the security between your application and the database at the same time as you reduce the possibility of SQL Injection Attacks.

I cant work out how to get my urlbox to update when clicking a link that takes you to another page/site.

What is a URL box ? The browser control has an event that fires when navigation ends, you can get the current URL from the control in that event.

Hi all,
I'm fairly new to the .NET platform. I'm using VS 2005 VB.NET (v2.0) to build a non server, non web based GUI to allow a user to view and edit Excel files within a DataGridView (among other functions for this app).
My question is, how do I utilize 'Move Up' and 'Move Down' buttons that the user could use to move a selected row up or down within the datagridview dataset imported from the Excel sheet? Ultimately, the user will be able to save the 'moved' rows (or added/deleted rows) back into the original Excel sheet. For now, I'd just like to be able to get the Move Up/Down feature working.
What I'd like to find is a tutorial on how to do this in .NET 2.0 (i.e. not VB 6). Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I have 'something' of progress, here's what I have so far that at least I can identify the current row (sub for when 'up' button is pushed):
<br />
'MsgBox("Row number is " & dgvEmployee.CurrentCell.RowIndex)<br />
'MsgBox("Row number is " & dgvEmployee.CurrentRow.Index)<br />
'MsgBox("Column Count is " & cC)<br />
<br />
Dim cC As Integer<br />
cC = (dgvEmployee.Columns.Count - 1)<br />
<br />
Dim bm As Windows.Forms.BindingManagerBase = dgvEmployee.BindingContext( _<br />
dgvEmployee.DataSource, dgvEmployee.DataMember)<br />
<br />
Dim bm2 As Windows.Forms.BindingManagerBase = dgvEmployee.BindingContext( _<br />
dgvEmployee.DataSource, dgvEmployee.DataMember)<br />
'HOW TO GET PREV ROW?<br />
<br />
Dim dr As DataRow = CType(bm.Current, DataRowView).Row<br />
Dim dr2 As DataRow = CType(bm.Current, DataRowView).Row<br />
<br />
Dim x As Integer<br />
Dim Buffer As New System.Text.StringBuilder<br />
<br />
For x = 0 To cC<br />
Buffer.Append(dr(x) & " ")<br />
Next<br />
<br />
Dim theCurrentRow As String<br />
theCurrentRow = Buffer.ToString()<br />
<br />
Buffer = Nothing<br />
<br />
<br />
Dim y As Integer<br />
For y = 0 To cC<br />
Buffer.Append(dr2(y) & "")<br />
Next<br />
<br />
Dim thePreviousRow As String<br />
thePreviousRow = Buffer.ToString()
It works for the current row selected.
How do I find the previous row? I tried getting dr2 to work like dr by pointing to -1, etc...but can't get it to work.
Any suggestions?

I encountered the problem when i used String.Formate() with the string containing the { character. Following is the sample code which generates the error:
Test = "This is test {0} {"<br />
Test2 = String.Format(Test," for string.format()")
The line is bold throws exception Input string was not in a correct format.
Is there any solution available for this?

Hidden in the MSDN documentation is the following:
"Opening and closing braces are interpreted as starting and ending a format item.
Consequently, you must use an escape sequence to display a literal opening brace or closing
brace. Specify two opening braces ("{{") in the fixed text to display one opening brace
("{"), or two closing braces ("}}") to display one closing brace ("}"). Braces in a format
item are interpreted sequentially in the order they are encountered. Interpreting nested
braces is not supported. "

Thank you Luc Pattyn,
Sorry for the late reply. Thank you very much again. Yes it is not mentioned in MSDN. But it works.
