I need a tool which can convert a batch file in to a shell script.
At present I am doing the same manually.
Can any body help?

What exactly do you think the difference is? A batch file is a shell script for the cmd.exe shell.

If you have replaced the CMOS battery to one of the correct size then it should work... Maybe you should clean the contacts if the old one leaked... It is very important that the flash bios jumper is not in when the computer is on... Use a voltmeter to check the voltage of the battery, and also if possible carefully check the voltage of the battery when it is in the computer. It should not drop. if i remember correctly the voltage for all cmos batteries is 3.0v.

Hi, In my company,at a same time..we are connecting to single machine(as server machine) through RUN command. At the time, we cannot(more than 10 peaople) connected to that particular machine.
When 11th machine entering the IP address in his RUN command and click O.K It shows the message as "No more COnnections can be made at this time".
When we ask about this to our System ADmin,he told that single machine (as server) has OS as WIndows XP.For the reason only we cannot get connected morethan 10 machines. If the Machine is 2000 server or 2003 server OS. then there is no problem for connecting more than 10 machines.
iS it true?
Is there any solution to connect more than 10 machines in window XP machine.

Yes, it's true. Workstation versions of Windows only allow 10 inbound connections. Server version limits depend on your licensing.

The only legal one is to use a Server version of Windows. XP doesn't have a server edition.

A prefect example of the mistrust and abuse that SysAdmins must endure.

I have this issue with schools who cannot afford a windows 2003 server (the software is free under a M$ agreement).
To over come this I use an old PC with a large hard drive and a FreeNAS server (http://sourceforge.net/projects/freenas/). In 30 min you can have server up and running and use PC's and Mac's from the one file server.

Interesting. Will have to remember that when the need comes up.

Microsoft has been doing it for years when connecting to other OS Servers to sidestep licensing.

There's a program called Firefox Ultimate Optimizer who claims to optimize memory usage in Firefox. What the program do is call the EmptyWorkingSet function every 5 seconds. This function removes as many pages as possible from the working set of the process passed as a parameter.
When running, the Optimizer will reduce Firefox physical memory usage to less than 1MB. But if you click a link or do anything in the browser, Firefox will alocate more memory, until the Optimizer acts again. The number of page faults increases a lot (obviously) and virtual memory is the same.
I would like to read some thoughts on this strategy. Does it really worth it? If the working set can be reduced from ~60MB to <1MB (im my machine), why Windows don't do this automatically?
Thanks for any comments.

Is there any way that i can make a single EXE OR MSI file which executes a number of EXE files.
For Example
I need to make a EXE which executes all the windows updates EXE files.
I have an option of BAT file but i am unable to select automatically OK Cancel buttons.

Well from bat files you could use cscript to emulate clicking/keyboard, but there is probably a better and more reliable way..

I have got exe files , i have made batch files, there are approx 83 windows update which i want to install and i can't sit clicking next for each one. I will really appreciate a prompt reply...thanks in advance.

Use a script (vbs or bat) that calls all the exes, and provides the command line switches to install them silently and non-interactively. If they're Windows updates, they'll have this support built into the exe.

From a command line, run the exe file with /? on the end. This will show you the available command-line switches. For example:
C:\>WindowsXP-KB921503-x86-ENU.exe /?
Usually, /quiet on the end will run the update will install it silently and non-interactively. You may also wish to control the reboots that some updates need using /norestart or /forcerestart.
