This weekend I was at the Chalmers ETA auction, its really great fun to get totally random computer stuff / electronics at bargain prices. Some of the things I bought/got (they have so much junk they give a lot away) include, some random old hubs, a nice fireworks box, some useful cables, a nice Win 2K programming book, some PCI & AGP cards, a CD burner with a fan(!), some weird random stuff, some HDDs, a motherboard and three ~1GHz CPUs to it(one socket). But probably the best thing was that I picked up a really old (from 1993) line UPS from APC, really heavy with two batteries and a big transformer. The batteries are crazy-broken (they make my high-tech digital LCD charger crash), so instead I used two PSUs and plugged them in series to supply 24 volts, plugged it all in, then unplugged the UPS the mains and it works!!! It kept running another 230v PSU, which ran a HDD, it even has a sinus waveform. I’m going to give it to my server once I fetch some batteries to it, and do some crazy testing on it. (its scary old)
A good weekend

Yay, I finally ordered my UPS, a APC CS 650VA[^] its going to be great when it comes. The power to my house is fine, its just that we have a tendency to run many, many things at the same time, like sauna, hot water heater and ovens, this causes half the house to go poof and UPSes go beeping and people dash like lightning (that’s the dangerous part) to the electrical room to put in a new fuse before the UPSes fail.

My new nice UPS is now plugged in and ready to keep my c++ going when the power fails

The UPS works great, it feels kind of weird to unplug the mains and the computer and one of the screens keep going .

When posting message on codeproject using Opera the formatting and smiley bars don't exist. But, using opera you can add set site-specific settings, telling opera to mask itself as internet explorer on codeproject.com enables the formatting and smiley bar. and they work quite fine too. Not bad i must say... Back in the day when i didnt have the bars i didn't understand how everyone did the nice link things
