The dropdown will be shown what you bind. If you don't want to allow this, you should filter in SQL statment.

Hi,
You can filter your DropDownList data at SQL statement and also you can do it from your code behind.
e.g.
DrpName.Items.Remove(DrpName.Items[index])
Hope this will help you.
Regards.

Hi,
if you wanna show in SQL Server then you have to Post this query in Sql Server forums.
If you wanna show in Asp.net page then try usign datalist.

Hi,
take a datalist control and then try to bind data with it.
You can have lots of examples on Google just search on it.
Just put one label in Item template and bind column of Sql table to label's Text property.
And ya just remebmer to set property of Datalist,
set RepeatCloumn = 4 and RepeatDirection = vertical.
Hope it will help you.

okay thanks a bundle for ur help,
well actually I've just recently started working in asp .net earlier I used to work in desktop apps. I'm a bit unfamiliar with these asp .net controls.
I just needed a little hint and u gave it to me in the form of RepeatColumn and RepeatDirection so again thanks alot for that.
Now I've almost made it with the asp table control. I'm adding td's and tr's myself with hyperlinks for the categories.
Cheers...

hi to all
i am having some problem ..so need ur help again.
there is a gridview where i am showing the employeedetails where empcode is the primary key in the a
table.
emp table is having
empcode,name ,age,sex,.
these values are getting from the frontend of the respective field.
i ma able to dispaly the record in the gridview after saving it.
there is an select option for each row of the gridview.
my problem starts here" when i want to select any particular row of the
gridview.based up on the empcode of the respective row the data shuld be dispaly in the corresponding
field in the form so that i can update it.
my objective is 1st i catch the empcode of the selected row and then based up on that empcode
other values willbe displayed in the corresponding field of the form.
i am using asp.net along with c#.net(2005) and sqlserver2005 as database.

Hi!
I guess you are using BoundFiled. when you want to update some data in gridview you have to use TemplateFiled.
in TemplateField you will have ItemTemplate, EditItemTemplate and FooterTemplate.
As per your requirement you need to use ItemTemplate and EditItemTemplate.
ItemTemplate acts just like BoundField. EditItemTemplate allows to Update the Data.
I hope this will work fine

Hi,
First of all you have to add Datakey names in dataGrid property.
Write your empCode (i.e. Table Column Name of Employeecode) and now in Datagrid selectedindexChanges Event get that datakey value (i.e. empcode).
And according to that fetch all data from database.
In Event you can get datakey value like this.
MyGridView.DataKeys[e.NewSelectedIndex].Value.ToString();
Now you have EmpCode so go ahead..
Thanks,

All,
I am currently working on a school project that requires me to collect RSS messages, dissect the text, compare it to previous text, and then post it onto a web site. I have done most of my programming thus far on C#, and from my research, it looks like I will have to use ASP.NET for this part of the project.
This is what I am thinking, using C# to collect the text and put it into a SQL database (when need to compare against old one), then use ASP.NET to get the data from the SQL database and display it on the web page.
I know most of you are probably very advance in your programming domain, can you please give me a heads on whatever
1) my approach works?
2) what do you suggest?
Best regards,
T

Hey,
Yeah you're approach is fine by all means. I don't know how you are planning to dissect the text in anyway but I presume it's not difficult or you know how to do it. Yeah save the data to a database if it's successful and then get the web page to query that table using a dataset object to just bind it to a grid.
I suggest making a table for successful and unsuccessful results so if it doesn't go to the database it's not just thrown in the bin and never seen again.
Cheers,
Michael

Thanks Michael,
Since I have very little experience with asp.net, but is it possible to do everything with just asp.net or should I still use C# for one component and asp.net for another.
Here is a breakdown to my approach
1) C#, a collection agent, where I collect rss feed and feed it to the database (using ADO.NET??!?!), where I can do further breakdown within the database.
2) ASP.NET, a webpage, that takes the data from the database (ADO.NET?!??!) and display that data on the screen.
Here are my questions.
1) Can I use ADO.NET for both ASP.NET and C#?
2) Do I need IIS install in my computer for the webpage?
3) ASP.NET, do I create that using VS.NET 2005 Web control? (see, I have no idea on asp.net)
4) After I am done with all this, is there any web service provider that will allow me to upload the collection agent and run it on their server?
If anyone can charm in, it would be great.

If you want to use the RSS feed in your website, you should probably use the opensource RSS tool called RSS.NET instead writing your own one.

Yeah. It can't be done with ADO.NET.
avengerzx9 wrote:

Yes.
avengerzx9 wrote: 2) Do I need IIS install in my computer for the webpage?
If you are "NOT" using VS 2002 or 2003, you don't need to install the IIS .
avengerzx9 wrote: 3) ASP.NET, do I create that using VS.NET 2005 Web control? (see, I have no idea on asp.net)
I'm not sure what you are asking. If you have no idea about ASP.NET, I suggest you to read the Book or QuickStart before start developing the application.

Yes. DiscountASP.NET is the best ASP.NET hosting service provider.

Hi,
I've was given an old ADO.NET websystem project. They built this project in old ASP (using recordsets such and so forth) and they want me to convert all the ASP code to ASP.NET if they won't work together. When I included some ASP pages into my new ASP.NET project I got this error.
Error 1 'Let' and 'Set' assignment statements are no longer supported. C:\Documents and Settings\mhomsey\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\WebSites\MyWebSite\dbconnection.asp 15
Does this mean, this old code doesn't work anymore and I have to rebuild that file or is there a way around this sort of error?
I appreciate all your help as I hope someone out there in this world knows a quick easy solution to this problem rather than rebuilding it all.
Michael - Cheers
FYI - I'm using VS2005 and I'm trying to convert it to ASP.NET 2.0

I think this is the old way of writing the property in VB. so, you can just change it as a property in ASP.NET.

Okay, this is probably a dumb question... but here it is...
I need to do a bunch of processing on an image after it is uploaded to a web site. I looked around for a NET 2.0 solution, and Atalasoft DotImage looks great -- but I can't afford it. I didn't see anything else which would do what I wanted.
However, I already have an existing image library I created, that took years of work, written in C++ -- and it could accomplish everything I need.
So here is my dumb question...
From an ASP.NET class, written in C#, can I call a function in a native VC6 C++ type DLL, and have it do the work for me?
For example, if the DLL simply has a function like:
void ProcessTheImage( LPCSTR lpcstrFileName );
Can I call this from ASP.NET? And if so, how?
I already figured out that I can create a command line app, written in C++, put it in the (WebSite)/Bin directory, and call it passing the filename as a parameter ... but I figured that a DLL call would be more efficient (???) ... and I haven't figured how to do the DLL call yet. I assume P/Invoke must be involved somehow (but I've never used that feature before).
Thanks for any assistance or guidance you can offer.
BTW, I'm using Windows Server 2003, NET 2.0, ASP.NET 2.0, SQL Server 2005, C#, etc. on a dedicated server.

DotImage rocks. I use it.
Yes, you can call a native dll, p/invoke is the name of the technology you use to do this. www.pinvoke.net[^] has lots of examples
Christian Graus - Microsoft MVP - C++
"also I don't think "TranslateOneToTwoBillion OneHundredAndFortySevenMillion FourHundredAndEightyThreeThousand SixHundredAndFortySeven()" is a very good choice for a function name" - SpacixOne ( offering help to someone who really needed it ) ( spaces added for the benefit of people running at < 1280x1024 )

I agree, DotImage looks great, but unless I'm missing something ... I have to pay $499 for the most basic SDK, then another $329 to use it on a server ... which is $828 ... for 1 person ... as the cheapest option. And when I look in my pants pockets, I can't find $828 in them. Telerik and CodeJock already got it.
The stuff that DotImage does though, I already have created, and have used for the last decade in MFC/C++ type code... including writing my own convolution filters, of different matrix sizes, by experimenting with Adobe Photoshop (as it has a feature to play around with that), etc.
In any case, thanks for the link to pinvoke.net. I'll check it out. Although my most basic question is how to get from something like this:
(WebSite)/App_Code/MyClass.cs
public class MyClass
{
public static void ProcessImage( String ImageFileName )
{
}
} And assuming ImageProc.dll exists as:
(WebSite)/Bin/ImageProc.dll
To do something that works. I assume there is some simple trick or technique for using P/Invoke to do this? Obviously there is going to be some sort of conversion problem between the C# String type and the Win32 LPCSTR type. Is there some sort of super easy bit of wisdom you can provide? And also, as to how I can call the function in the first place?
If not, thank you. I will check out pinvoke.net further. Your help is appreciated greatly however. Regards.
